Hi all

My first time to post here, I must admit it was a very interesting read to say the least. I've been looking through this site for ages now.

Ok as the title says Educational Gamming

My name is Ronan Hayes, Im a 21 year old Computer Science student, its my final year, and as tradition would have it my college feels it necessary that every student most develop a full industry style game. I not really being to interested in Business applications, have opted for my true passion, Games.

But not just any old game, A game that could be used to teach students all about the World War 2. Its a relatively complex project, as I have to balance the gameplay and education. I currently have detailed Timelines, and research done on World War 2, but after buying the Band of Brothers Box set and watching it (all in one sitting), I was truly inspired by the documentary on the last DVD. So I have begun designing my Game, around the activities of Easy company and the 101St airborne.

Now since this is an educational tool, it wouldnt really be acceptable to bring violence into the class room. So I was thinking of another means to get the content across and that would be for the player to take on the Role of the Medic Eugene Roe, healing the soldiers throughout the battles.

I would love to hear feedback from you with regards to this, as I want to make it accurate and deliver the content in an exact and expressive way. I want the students to learn that while the NAZI regeme was evil, the common soldier was more than likely just following orders, that they to had families. I want them to see the sacrifices made by our past generations, and the efforts the soldiers went to allow us our way of life.

If you wish to e-mail me @

edge@vodafone.ie

I would love to start a correspondance with everyone as well. Do you have a list of e-mail addresses or postal address of Vets who are still alive, as I would love their perspectives as well.

Many thanks for your time
Ronan Hayes

I love playing computer game too.
These games here are all excellent:

Medal of Honor-Allied Assault
Medal of Honor-Spearhead
Medal of Honor-breakthrough
Call Of Duty
Commandos 1,2 and 3

These games are unbelievably realistic and utterly terrifing to play..It is almost like being there!
In the MOH spearhead there is a Bastogne level, and the game starts with parachuting into flak guns in Normandy..
I just started playing Call of Duty and I must say it is the most action packed WW2 shooter I have ever played!! The MG42 is REALLY something to FEAR..
