Hi everybody, I'm brand new here on this discussion board, short about me: 21, living in Belgium, fascinated on anything concerning WWII especially E-company after me seeing for the third time the dvd box and reading the book.
but I'm planning to make a trip for a few days to Bastogne and Foy and I was wondering if any of you could tell me what's worth visiting around there concerning WWII, I've been told in "Bois Jacques" you can still actually go and take a look at the foxholes that were dug in WWII, any other places worth looking for? Also planning on visiting Normandy, any good ideas there?
thanks, Pieter

Hi Pieter and everyone on this site. I'm also new here. I've been reading through most of the letters and I must say I really like it. I live in Luxembourg and have been to Bastogne a few times. Only after watching BoB did I return there with renewed interest. I'm not sure if you can go into Bois Jacques, I wasn't quite sure where it was and I think I drove around it. Incidently, what a wonderful series. I'm from Scotland and my father was in Normandy,El Alamein and Italy and Scicily during WW2. He never discussed it, but when he died I came across his soldier's book and decorations he had won. It certainly makes me love and respect him more. If only my sister and I had known. I did go to Normandy last summer. It's quite an experience.
Thanks a lot guys for this great site.

Hi Pieter,
You are right, the foxholes are still visible. There is also a memorial at Rachamps, the Bastogne Historical centre, the Mardasson memorial, the Renée Lemaire memorial, about 15 other ww2 memorial in Bastogne and more around, the Diekirch military museum...if there is something special you are looking for, please let me know

Hi, thanks for you answers, I did found out you have indeed some museums round Bastogne concerning WW2, does any of you guys maybe have some maps from Bastogne and around from now and then? Coz I've been looking around but it seems nothing refers to Bois Jacques in Bastogne itself, I was wondering how to find it and if you even can go into the 'bois', maybe someone can help me out? I'm planning to make a photo reportage from in and around Bastogne and Foy should be great!, thanks, Pieter

Hi, there are several detailed maps on which you can find the Bois Jacques, you can try to locate such a map on the web. But the Bois Jacques is a large sector, i found the foxholes with the help of BoB's 1st DVD with the interviews of the Easy co.members, where Guarnere and Babe revisit the Bois Jacques. There is no problem visiting the site, it's an open wood. The only problem is, some visitors are digging for souvernirs, verry sad.1st it is a historical ground, we have to respect it, 2nd digging is against the law, 3rd it is verry dangerous and 4th there is probably nothing usefull left. Thats why i communicate the location only after direct contact with the people, would never describe it on the net

Hi Marco, thanks for taking time to answer my questions, I don't have the 1st documentary DVD yet, I have the regular DVD box, I did order it though and I will have it next week. and believe me , my intentions are far from digging for souvenirs, I'm just interested in taking pictures and learning more about this part of our history., if you want you can email me more details or maps at pieter@tab.be (I tried to locate them on the internet but had no luck so far). btw I see you're located in luxembourg, do you live far from Bertrange I'm there sometimes for my work in the shopping city Concorde?

Hi Marco,
I'm heading up to Bastogne either this weekend or next. Don't suppose you can give me any specific directions to get to the fox-hole area of the Bois Jacques? Missed it last time. Villmols merci!!
