i did not realise that this epic film/ historical event also envolved the 101st Airborne, anybody have any info on which companys were involved etc.

The first assaults were, I believe, made by men from 'A' company, 1st Bn, 187th Infantry, 101 Division (Airmobile). Its the reconstituted 505th PIR. In subsequent assaults, one more company from 1st Bn and two from 2nd Bn joined in along with two bns of ARVN troopers.
