Just thought I'd ask as a way of getting to know everybody. I like Indie (the Smiths etc), Rock (Rage against the Machine, Rammstein etc) and Classical (Beethoven's 7th Symphony, 2nd Movement my favourite
).

Hiya,
Classical (too many to mention),
Jazz (old stuff, esp. Glenn Miller)
Rock (Type O, N.I.N, Ozzy, Cult, AC/DC,Rammstein, Queen amd Metallica),
Folk - esp. Loreena McKennit.
Jonathan.

Classical (so many to choose from)
Jazz (Glenn Millar, Louis Armstrong)
Folk (Eric Clapton)
Rock (Metallica, Blue Oyster Cult, Default, Led Zepplin)
Other (Nicholas Tse - a cantonese pop singer)
| |
Tim, get out of town and Paint It Black! You actually know who's Nicholas Tse? That guy's in my neck of the woods! Or ... a little further up north, actually.
I don't quite know how to classify what under which category but off the top of my head, here's mine:
* New Age / World
[Select few: Latin / Medieval folk-traditional Celtic (Irish, English, Scottish), Viking Scandinavian / Mediterranean (Southern Spain, Italian, Turkish, Egyptian, Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Greek, a fair bit of others) / South American folk-traditional]
* Classical / classical guitar / Spanish guitar
* Latin / traditional Flamenco
* Fusion
* Evergreens
* Hard Rock
* Heavy metal
* Alternative
* Pop
* Contemporary
All not necessarily in that order but the first 2 takes precedence and top priority on my list. I may have also missed out a couple other categories.
Big time favourites:
Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Secret Garden, ENYA, Chris Spheeris, Jesse Cook, ENYA!!!, Simon & Garfunkel, Jon English (only "Six Ribbons"), Magna Carta (only "Isle of Skye"), U2, Carlos Santana, Eagles, Ricky Martin (only "Vuelve" album), Queen, Extreme (now defunct), Sting, Aerosmith, Matchbox 20, Metallica, Rolling Stones, QUEEEN, Credence Clearwater Revival, Mamas and Papas, Dean Martin (only "Sway"), Doris Day (only "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps"), Midge Ure (for "Breathe"), Crowded House (for "Don't Dream It's Over"), Madonna, Nino Rota (the version of "Speak Softly Love" with the Sicilian mandolin), Robbie Williams, Escape Club
okay if I go on, I needn't sleep and by next Mon I'd still be going on with this.
Favourite soundtrack score composers:
Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, Ronan Hardiman, James Horner.
For classical:
F Tarrega, F Sor, Handel, Hadyn, Beethoven, Chopin, that man with the Unfinished Symphony (sorry but I just can't remember his name right now), and a few others although Bach's too heavy for me at this age.
For guitar adaptations / recitals:
Andres Segovia is KING, John Williams is prince.
I also collect soundtracks, mostly music scores from movies, TV series, cartoons, documentaries. Basically most of what I like is whatever that catches my fancy and seem to literally flow in my blood. I have a thing for anything in the dark tones of minor keys, and I buy only stuff which I feel I must really whatever-I-do-I-MUST have the originals. The rest I download off the net.
That's it from me for now. I still have a few more and would love to add on but there's mail to respond to - I'm off, and waiting to see if I am still welcomed here or if the usual handful few are waiting for me to emerge again so they can trash me through private email. hahahah Bring it on!

Hi:
Interesting tastes in music, not really surprised at the Glen Miller choice for most. I think we all just love anything forties. I saw a great documentary about Glen Millers last flight yesterday. His plane went down over the channel on the way to Paris to entertain troops.
It was previously unknown what happened to him but his kite (plane) went over an allied bomb jettison area probably about 10 miles in diameter. (An area to safely drop unused bombs in the channel because the planes can't land with a full payload and they can't drop them anywhere due to the high number of allied shipping).
Well Millers plane went off course due to bad weather and ended up in this jettison area just as some Lancasters were dropping their payload after returning from a cancelled bombing mission over Germany. Some Bombs hit his plane and down it went, the rests history.
They did locate the crash site but there wouldn't be anything left of it except some encrusted engine parts, which divers couldn't find even though they located it by sonar etc. There was loads of other evidence and stuff but thats the jist of it.

Steve, thanks for sharing that information with us. What happened to his plane has been one of the mysteries of the last century.

Gee folks...looks like pretty much the same stuff that my son and I listen to, also. Our musical tastes are pretty broad.
I especially like NIN, Nirvana, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, anything Celtic, Nick Drake, middle-eastern music's cool, Mozart, Beatles (my 50th b-day is happening in '05, so I've warned my kids that they should start pooling their money to get me the anthology series in CD and DVD and anything about the Fab Four in print that I don't already have. I figure, 50 is a good birthday to start actually asking for specific things other than a hug and kiss, although those are really good also...), old Stones pre-Tattoo You, I grew up listening to and watching 40s stuff, Ashley MacIsaac....sheesh, the list goes on and on and on! R&B, 60s, punk, Zeppelin, flamenco, The Gypsy Kings, Hendrix, CCR, The Strawbs, Tangerine Dream, White Stripes (blew us away in concert last May...), k d lang Ingenue or before, U2, Korn, industrial, Beethoven, Cheiftains, Clannad, Stray Cats, The Clash, The Kinks, Ozzy and Sabbath, Radiohead, The Who, Beck, Bowie, Aerosmith, Tenacious D, Spike Jones (the original), Weird Al, Genesis w/Peter Gabriel, Toadies, Tschycovski (yeah I know I murdered his name there...), Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, blah blah blah....
Broad. Very broad.

Try this contempory poem for musical taste:
"Let them in Peter, they are very tired,
Give them the couches where the angels sleep,
Let them wake whole again to new dawns fired,
With sun not war. And may their peace be deep,
Remember where the broken bodies lie,
And give them things they like.
Let them make noise.
God knows how young they were to have to die!
Give them swing bands not gold harps, to these our boys,
Let them love Peter,- they have had no time,
Girls sweet as meadow wind, with flowing hair,
They should have trees and bird song, hills to climb,
The taste of Summer in a ripened pear,
Tell them how they are missed. Say not to fear,
It's going to be alright with us down here".
