During Tony To's career producing for film and television, he has been associated with such filmmakers as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford, Carl Franklin, Chris Carter, Frank Marshall and Jon Turteltaub.
Born in Thailand and educated in England and America, To is currently the co-executive producer of BAND OF BROTHERS, a 10-part HBO miniseries that will be airing throughout the world beginning in September 2001. Executive produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, with a budget of $120,000,000, it is the largest original programming venture in HBO's history.
Based on the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose, BAND OF BROTHERS tells the true story of a company of paratroopers in the 1 01 st Airborne Division of the United States Army in World War 11. Volunteers for an elite and experimental fighting force, these young men parachuted into France early on DDay morning, held the line in the Battle of the Bulge, and captured Hitler's Eagle Nest at Berchtesgaden.
Prior to BAND OF BROTHERS, To partnered with "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter to executive produce "Harsh Realm," a drama series for Fox.
He also co-executive produced HBO's "From the Earth to the Moon," which won the Emmye Award in 1998 for Outstanding Miniseries, as well as numerous other accolades. Executive produced by Tom Hanks and produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, the 12-hour presentation dramatized the achievements of America's Apollo astronauts.
Other television projects To has produced include "Grand Avenue," a six-hour HBO miniseries from Robert Redford; "Earth 2," a 22-episode series from Amblin Entertainment that ran on NBC; "Midnight Run" for Universal TV; and "Laurel Avenue," also for HBO. He also line produced the feature films "One False Move," directed by Carl Franklin, and "Ambition,' directed by Scoff Goldstein.
