Funny, he doesn' t look Jewish. Mayyybe, if we break his nose.
GW
Seriously, he did a good job.

Great find, Chris...how do you do it, LOL!
And how can anyone even think of hurting that lovely face?
Jane

Due to the ease with which everyone gets upset, subsequent postings didn't seem to understand that I was referring to the fact that "Ross McCall" doesn' t sound Jewish and that we have often had nonJews make fun of our noses. hence the comment.
It seems as though Liebgott was supposed to balance the Jewish situation as the "good guy" to Sobel' s "bad guy".
So, to you Guarneres out there on the ship, although I' m not Liebgott, I am Jewish.
To those of you who still have you spool,I' ll share a Happy New Year with you. We all could use some good. To poor Jonathon, I hope he finds a happier place or learns to question a remark that makes him unhappy.

hi gold and all!
yep i'm seeing what you're seeing. but hey we deserve a pic of him as there is so little to be found about the real Joe Liebgott...
gold; i participated in the airborne walking tour yesterday with a friend of mine, karin (from the pics). we didn't know it was such a great event! apparently, it is the biggest 1 day walking event in the WORLD! 30,000 people walking and it was great! it was in oosterbeek near arnhem and it marks the beginning of the ceremonies regarding Market Garden. it was the 56th (!) time it was organised and i took a lot of pics! what was really great was that there were a lot of soldiers dressed up the way they looked in 1944! so i also took a pic of this screaming eagle wearing a complete jumpsuit! yahoo it was great! (and only 15 km of walking, what do you say?)...
also, you had to pay 4 euros to participate and this money is used to enable vets to come back to holland every year to be at the market garden ceremonies....great, huh???
i'll post the pics asap (will take 2 weeks or more as i still got some pics left to shoot, will do that in eindhoven sep 18)...!
irene

A remark that makes me unhappy? Hargh! What I understood from SOME of the previous postings was some ladies leaving nice comments about some male eye candy. Hence my comment. At least Gold chose to see the funny side, which was always my intention.
Regards, Jonathan

cias, i don't think anyone got upset over it, we think, or at least I think it was funny, but seriously, i don't want his nose broken, even if it would make him look Jewish ;)
Irene, glad you could join them.
Wow! That's a lot of people! Maybe you can post those pics in Ross' group or something? (ain't he cute up there?) By the way, did you get to see a pic of the real Liebgott? I think i saw one but i forgot where? Did you get to see any vets there by chance? You're going to the Sept. 18 event aren't you? Well, hope you can get us a lot of pics from there! Be looking forward to seeing those pics, good luck! ;) lotsa
s at ya!
Jonathan, that WAS funny!!! Men always react like that! Hehe
Gold

Cias,
For what it's worth, I understood your comment about Ross' nose to be a joke...my reply was meant to be the same.
Jonathon,
I too, chose to see the funny side. And yes, i do enjoy male eye candy...nothing wrong with that
Jane

You set of lecherous wimmin' you. LOL!
Regards, Jonathan

gold; a short respons; got classes in like....2 minutes. i saw 1 pic of the real lieb it was at this site that shows all the bob characters i think i found it via google band of brothers character guide/index (not sure). if you got the time, will you look it up and see if it's the same one? otherwise i'd LOVE to see the one you're referring (SP?) to!
did not see many vets. dutch ones were represented but i think the majority of the english/polish ones will be arriving shortly since the ceremonies don't start untill like 17 sep...
i will take a lot of pics in eindhoven, but it's in the evening (not very good for my pics) and also i don't know if i'll see bill and babe! there are so many people there...and the route is 22 km long...
will see you all soon gotta run now!
irene

Jonathan, *giggle*
Irene, question: did you finish that reply up there like within 2 minutes!!! ;)
Oh well, let's talk some time soon again and think where we saw the pics we caught a glimpse of. I still can't remember where, but i'll try to dream of it tonight.
Have fun at school! *yuck!* j/k

Hi Folks,
Here's to hoping that someone takes some photos of the events going on in Holland. Seriously wish I could be there. Used to have an associate who went over the North Sea to Holland to take part in an annual drive along "Hell's Highway" in lots of WWII military vehicles. The event was popular with the local populace, as far as I was made aware.
Regards, Jonathan

hey jonathan!
yep I am taking pics! hope they'll satisfy your need...i'm not a very good photographer. but i'll do my best and i am going to as many ceremonies/events i can possible go to! in the last few weeks i went to see the oosterbeek war cemetary and i participated in the airborne walk. as you know i'll be going to eindhoven sep 18 to MAYBE catch a glimpse of bill&babe and i'll be doing the 'bridge to bridge'walk oct 27 too...i can only promise to do my best on the pics...(don't have a digital camera
)
hey it's an interesting thing you mentioned there. i was planning a Hell's Highway tour in the summer (just for myself
) but the weather wasn't really co-operating (one day too hot next day too wet....) i haven't heard of an annual organised drive along Hell's Highway?!??!! is it for owners of WW2 military vehicles only?
i can totally imagine it being popular with the people here. every event/ceremony i go to is absolutely CROWDED and i can guarantee (SP i'm sure) you the dutch people are still thankful and don't want the memory of those days to fade away...!
irene

Hey Irene!
Thanks for the hard work and great sentiments. As far as I know the military vehicle event along "Hell's Highway" is fairly regular. It's all softskins, that I do know. One fella turned up with a Kubelwagon last year. Got it spat on a few times.
I'm hoping to make it accross to Holland one day as my family has connections with the British Paras and the Dutch resistance.
Regards, Jonathan.

Jonathon,
Do you know where your family was involved in the Resistance? My Oma and Opa were Dutch Jews who were hidden during the war, and they became active in the Resistance during the later years of the war. I think they were in Heerland. (My apologies if I mangled the spelling of that!) Unfortunately, that's about all I know, as my Oma doesn't want to talk about it. We thought they were the only ones to survive out of the extended family, but about a month ago, we discovered one of my Oma's cousins was living in Arnhem! I think now I have a perfect excuse to visit Holland now!
Manda
Also, what's a "softskin"?

Hiya Manda and thanks for the comments.
I'm not too sure about where my relative "operated", all I know is that it was in Holland. I do know that she kept going to Holland for many years after the war and I could ask her where she liked to go then, and why?
Softskins is the term for military vehicles such as cars and lorries/trucks.
Regards, Jonathan.

Gold/Irene - hello. There are two small pics of the real Joe Lieb on a couple of sites I bookmarked. I hope these addresses are right - if not, say so on here and I'll retrace my steps to where I found them and look them up properly for you:
e506th.com
currahee.hispeed.com
As for the above screen version of Mr.Lieb, I can understand why you'd want to gaze at that for a while, for he's certainly a handsome looking individual...reminds me of me a bit.
Incidentally, Irene, are you interested in Capt. Ron Speirs? There seem to be many Dutch web sites devoted to that fine man. I have one at
go2war2.nl/band-of-brothers
which I kept because it has a fabulous, heart-warming picture of Mr.Speirs meeting Dick Winters at the re-union in Normandy last year.

Ziggy, thanks for the help.
Reminds you of you a bit? Does that mean you're a hottie too? ;)
or did that mean that we remind you of you a bit?
*scratches head* did that make sense??

Does anyone else think that its kinda funny that Ross McCall went from not having any posts here to having 28 in only a few days? I noticed that and thought it was kinda funny, in a kinda weird way. Anyway, I'm glad there are finaly posts here, because Ross is a total hottie!!
~*Brenna*~

Yes, i did notice at one point that Ross' page didn't have any posts...actually he had posts...all over these boards...just not on his assigned page...but i knew this would change...nice to see it did.
Jane
Ross in 'Waterland'...forget the year of this...but he must be about twelve...and cute as the dickens, LOL

LOL Jane, thanks for sharing that one here. Cute!
Brenna, i'm with ya there. Such a hottie!
Gold

Lol! Its good to know that we're in agreement there Gold:-D. Jane, that is such a cute picture! Where did you find it?

Yup!

There's little more intimidating than a gang of lecherous wimmin', apart from a drunken gang of lecherous wimmin'. Scampers off into the darkness.
LOL, Jonathan.

Jonanthan,
Well, now that you mention it...at the gathering of my BOB-related fangroup....i discovered something called 'Maker's Mark Whiskey'.
Very nice, smooth...
Brenna,
The pic is from a movie called 'Waterland'...I created it with a screen capture device attached to my puter.
Jane

You have a BoB related fangroup and meetings involve inbibing "Makers Mark"??????????
Sounds like the kind of thing that inspired a certain "hubble bubble" scene by Shakespeare. Or are you just trying to scare me on purpose?
Timid of UK.

But not too timid to evoke THAT image!!! WHEW! Better dive for the foxhole, Jones -- just in case there's another Shakespeare devotee here.

Jon, you crazy kid! Where you from in the norf?

Gold, just seen your message. A hottie? Yes, darling, I could turn heads during Paris fashion week. Then again, that wouldn't be difficult - who wants to look at some hideous, anorexic model bird with microscopic knockers, anyway? In contrast, I could just look at the pictures of these top lads from Easy all day.

NOW I'm getting really concerned, Ziggy. You pronounced north as "norf". You're not from "darn sarf", are you? I thought I was safe here, in good old Blighty. Thought that everyone else was overseas. I mean, Joe Stalin had the whole of Eastern Europe as HIS buffer zone. I thought that I'd be safe with the Atlantic!
Scampers back into his freshly dug foxhole in the Darkness (Sheffield - UK)

Jane
PS: Jonathan, what 'hubble bubble' scene...i don't know squat about Shakespeare...should go back to school, cos I do wanna learn

Jane
Both the"Bubble, bubble" and "..tale told by an idiot.." are from Shakespeare' s "Macbeth". As you know Carwood Lipton favored the now named "Band of Brothers" speech from Shakespeare' s "Henry V".
William Faulkner made the words "sound and fury" into the title of one of his novels.
I wrote the post on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism, during which we are supposed to fast and pray forgiveness for our sins. A day is not enough for some of the people I know.
As Cole Porter wrote in "Kiss Me Kate", which was built around Shakespeare' s "Taming of the Shrew", "Bush Up on Your Shakespeare."

Do you approve of the brief tour of Willie?
I bet the "lecherous, drunken wimmen: wouldn' t mind looking at Mel Gibson in "Hamlet", eh?

A bit of trivia regarding Mel Gibson's 'Hamlet'. It was Shane Taylor's first on-screen role. He was an extra and can be seen in quite a few scenes.

No, you great Yorkshire puddin', I pronounced north as in Shaun Ryder's norf, as in Manchester and Lancashire. But just to furrow your brow further, let me tell you that for the past 5 yrs I've been living in deepest, genteel Surrey, you know. Ha, that ought to keep you underground for a while, Jones.
Talking of totally unsuitable actors for roles in Shakespeare, what about Keanu in Much Ado? Was that meant to appeal to the inner-city generation? What next, the girls from Destiny's Child auditioning for Lady Bracknell? The best thing they could do is to show BoB in schools, but the woolly-minded Libs might think it unfair that one side won.

Ziggy
Especially since the Allies, in general, won, but the US(the Great Satan)in particular.
Gary

Jane,
In the picture, you said there was a Chris N. from Portland, OR. Is she a member of this site?

PS: To everybody else: it's a wonderful thing to see so many Bardophiles out there, even if y'all do tend to bastardize the text :-)

Hi folks. Thanks to Gary for explaining the connections to Shakespeare. The "Hubble bubble" scene involves, er, three witches around a cauldron. *Ducks into foxhole* No return fire? I'll carry on, then.
Gary, my own personal observation of Yom Kippur is a certain conflict. And yes, I'm absolutely certain that this gang of wimmin' would like Mel in Hamlet. "That a film about a little bitty pig, right?"- film quote. Sorry.
Alrighty, folks. I'm gonna spend the evening downing some "Dutch Courage" as we in the UK call it (booze) until my nerves are under control. Then I'm gonna step forward and volunteer for the hazardous mission of joining the EasyCo group. In the meantime I'm going to revise my foxhole and turn it into an impregnable bunker.
Ziggy? You've compared me to some Mancunian drunk?
Folks, just to let you "in" on the sacrelidge, Ziggy has compared me to someone who comes from *the* rival county to the one I live in. That's bad. I'm sure that you folks over in the US must have similar sentiments to your neighbour states?
Sure, we have similar sentiments as you may do about our version of North and South. Though we don't have a "Manson-Nixon Line". But Ziggy's refering to an East-West rivalry, here. Ziggy, you're not a nice chap. I'm really sensetive at heart. LOL!
Regards, Jonathan. Off to procure more concrete for the bunker.......

["That a film about a little bitty pig, right?"- film quote. Sorry. Alrighty, folks. ]
LOL, I liked that one…after I thought about it...I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed...sorry.
[I'm gonna spend the evening downing some "Dutch Courage" as we in the UK call it (booze) until my nerves are under control. Then I'm gonna step forward and volunteer for the hazardous mission of joining the EasyCo group. ]
Fortifying yourself before joining the group? Why? We’re harmless…really…and very nice…you might actually enjoy yourself.
Jane
Ps: UK, huh? You don’t happen to act, do you? If yes, maybe imbibing and loading up on concrete is a good idea, LOL! I'm kidding...come on over...you'll love it!

Hiya Jane (hic),
If I remember rightly, the quote is from "Renaissance Man" with Dany DeVito.
Er, I've been known to be a bit of a Thespian in my time. (With one foot firmly in the bunker) why?
Anyway, chin in, chest out. Boldly marches forth to join EasyCo. "'Tis a far far better thing I do now.........."
Regards, Jonathan.

No, Jon, you don't quite understand: you see, I'm from the...Oh, never mind!
Manda, here's Keanu bastardising the Bard:
"I would rather be...A canker...In a hedge
Than a rose...in his grace - dude!"
What part could Keanu have played in BoB? With his penchant for high speed and action, he'd have to have played Ron Speirs, dashing through Foy - jeeps, just the thought of that is sacrilege. I thought Matthew Settle did a really convincing job there.
Yeah, Cias, I know, mate, it's like that over here. The Libs are fully in control, in the councils, in education, in sport, in everything, and with their doctrine of absolute parity for all, they hate a strong, purposeful nation like the US and spread their bile about Her, which the dumb masses over here believe only too readily. The decent press does its best to counter this idiocy, but to little avail. Believe me, I count myself part of a very small Band of Britons who feel the need for a strong Germany for Europe, and a strong US for the sake of the globe.

Hi Kiddo, anything new on the Shane front? I do wish we in US had more access to projects featuring the BOB guys from UK...oh well...patience, patience...nice to see you posting...take care. [My bud, Tree is also in Easycompanygroup

Ziggy
Keanu in BOB? While he was good in 'Speed'...i'm going to assume you are kidding around [aren't you?]
The casting in BOB was perfect...no one could do Speirs better than MS....
I liked Branaugh's 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
However, when I view it now, i feel sad since the Branaugh/Emma Thompson combo is no more...I'm sure they had good reasons for parting...but I hate to see break ups.
Jane

Righto Jane,
I'll go to EasyCo right now and post an introduction. It's only polite.
Regards, Jonathan.

Jonathon
I have no idea what you mean about a conflict in Yom Kippur- weariness and hunger, yes, but conflict? Also, discussing a pig of any size in the same paragraph with Yom Kippur is indeed an Odd Couple.
Jane
I went to the link and was having such grief with Yahoo that I quit. I read where you told Jonathon of a short cut. How does that work?
Gary

Jane, I work in mental health and I can assure you that the microwave makes a handy missile for clients!

Really, Jane, there's no need to feel sad about the break-up of luvvy Kenny and luvvy Emmy - it was for the best, and much to their mutual consent. Can you just imagine the conversation at the breakfast table:
Emmy: "Lo! Wherefore art thou going, dearest?"
Kenny:"Sweet, tarry whilst I go to the papershop
for my copy of 'Big Uns', 'pon my troth
only to peruse the naughty missives found
therein, and ne'er to cast eye on the evil
imagery."
The novelty of that wears off in a matter of days. They were glad to see the back of each other.
And now I'm going to post to Jonesy here, for I know he'll read this - he prowls these site links like a monster from the vast deep, casting a deadly tentacle over each in turn. I'm from the Duchy of Lancaster, Jones, not some pseudo-northerner like yourself right down there in deepest South Yaaarkshir' - that's virtually the Midlands - but I happen to live these days in the beautiful county of Surrey. And what that means, of course, is that with you right bang in the middle of my place of origin and my present abode, I've got you surrounded - you poor b******.

And welcome to the "Joanzi an' Ziggi Show" folks.
And so, Ziggi? You wish to play the Captain Ahab to my roving monster of the deep, yes? Why you obsessive nasty person, you.
But let's slow things down right now and talk about the Duchy of Lancaster for a while, shall we? Hmmmm, I'm a relative southerner compared to you, am I? Now, according to my records the Duchy has very little property north of where I live. So are you *sure* about your statement? The only concentration of Duchy property north of here is only jst north of here. At a place famous for its liquorice "cakes". Unless of course, a certain Psycho-capitain with a wooden leg wants to educate me?
"Thar she blows!". Jonathan.

Iines, we used to think he was Jewish but according to his son, Liebgott was Catholic.
gold

Ok I think that Liebgott was Jewish, but maybe he married a Catholic woman. If you are Jewish and you marry outside your race then one of the spouses has to convert religions...Maybe Liebgott converted to the Catholic religion.
Brook...Skip Muck and Donald Hoobler's #1 fan

I agree with Brook. Maybe he decided to convert to Catholicism (sp) when he met his wife. After what he saw in the war he might have been to shaken up to continue to be Jewish. I'm sure there were many many who converted to other religions because of what happened during WWII. I have heard/read of such. So it is possible that he was Jewish during the war but converted afterward and never told his family.

Stupid question maybe but: Is that man in left Liebgott? That upper side to text "click here to bookmark". I have wondered it a few days, and it would be nice to know

Nope, Iines. It's Shane Taylor, portraying Medic Eugene Roe. But your right in wondering -- he has his face in its concerned concentrating tension and for an instant, he does resemble Ross McCall. BK
