PART 6 "ANGELS FROM ABOVE": CALL SHEET 24
BY BRUCE C.McKENNA.
73 Continued:

WINTERS
Seen any Krauts?

MALARKY
Just dead ones, Captain.

He moves on.

74 EXT. ROE'S FOXHOLE - DAY

ROE

Watches the woods, holding Perconte's SCISSORS. He has that
hollow, battle worn look in his eyes. He hears a RIFLE shot
somewhere. Stares ahead. More rifle fire. It seems to
build.

75 EXT. GORDON & MORE'S FOXHOLE - DAY

Gordon tends his STOVE, moving methodically as he listens
to the rifle fire, boiling water for the used coffee
grounds he keeps in a hand grenade cannister. He pours the
HOT WATER over the weak grounds as--

WINTERS

Reaches Gordon's foxhole. Gordon has a TOWEL wrapped around
his head underneath his Helmet.

WINTERS
Mississippi in August...

GORDON
See you there, Cap'n.

LAUGHTER. Winters looks along the line. He knows they'll
make it.

76 DELETED

77 ROE'S FOXHOLE / THE GERMAN LINE.

ROE still looking out towards the German line as --

TWO TIGER TANKS, side by side, crash through the trees and
out into the open. A Black Forest Nightmare to men without
artillery. Their guns point straight towards Easy Company.

78 ROE'S FOXHOLE.

LIPTON runs past, keeping low.

LIPTON
Gonna get busy, Doc.

Stay with LIPTON as...

79 EXT. EASY COMPANY'S LINE - SAME.

Lipton runs along the line of foxholes, past ALLEY and
LIEBGOTT.

LIPTON
Hold your fire...He's trying to
draw us out. Hold your fire...

ALLEY
Hold what fire. Lip? What in the
hell we gonna stop that thing
with?

First ONE MORTAR HIT, then ANOTHER, right on the edge of
the clearing as Lipton moves on.

In his foxhole, Gordon brews his coffee, pours it into his
cup.

Lipton runs past.

LIPTON
Get ready, Smokey.

From down the line, the SOUND of COMBAT grows. RIFLE FIRE
clips into the trees.

80 ROE'S FOXHOLE / THE GERMAN LINE.

From his foxhole, Roes watches as:

From somewhere on the right flank, a .75M Shell SCREAMS
into one of the Tigers and ricochets off the armor plating.
Then ANOTHER SHELL bursts close to the second tank.

The TIGER TANKS make a turn, return fire towards the right
flank, and move off in that direction. The sounds of MORTAR
and SMALL ARMS FIRE grow stronger.

81 IN GORDON & MORE'S FOXHOLE:

Gordon works the action on his machine gun to make sure
it's not frozen. Satisfied, he turns to pick up his sacred
cup of coffee as a rifle CRACKS.

The shot pierces his RIGHT SHOULDER, runs through his back,
and EXITS out of the LEFT shoulder. For a moment, he
doesn't move, then he drops the coffee, slides to the
bottom of his foxhole.

HE GLANCES DOWN, puzzled.

STEAM from the spilled HOT COFFEE rises up from his lap.
But he can't feel it: he's PARALYZED from the shoulders
down.

More arrives, carrying ammunition.

MORE
SMOKEY'S HIT! MEDIC! MEDIC!

MORE and ALLEY drag Gordon out and back, away from their
machine gun foxhole.

82 IN ROE'S FOXHOLE:

ROE

Hears the cry of "MEDIC!" But he doesn't move as he
continues to stare straight ahead from his foxhole.

Spina appears and GRIPS his arm.

SPINA
Gene?

Roe looks at Spina. Spina can see he's on the edge.

SPINA (CONT'D)
Let's go.

Roe suddenly breaks out of his trance and starts to move.

83 EXT. NEAR GORDON'S FOXHOLE - DAY

Roe and Spina run as Alley leans over the ashen Gordon.

Spina runs straight on as more cries of "MEDIC" go up down
the line.

As ROE arrives, Alley pulls a .45 from out of Gordon's
JACKET.

GORDON
Have you got it, Mo?

ALLEY
I got it, Smokey. I'll keep it
for you.

Roe pushes Alley aside, pulls open Gordon's jacket.

GORDON
I can't feel ma legs, Gene. It
don't hurt none at all.

ROE
You take it easy.
(to Alley)
My foxhole! Get the plasma. NOW!

Alley runs. LIPTON arrives just as ROE cuts away Gordon's
tunic and undershirt revealing that, beneath his clothes,
Gordon wears WOMEN'S SILK PJs. They're covered in blood.

LIPTON
Damn, Walter, what you go on? You
wearing you gal's silk P.Js?

Roe sees that Gordon's shoulders are covered with ECZEMA.
Gordon looks gray, almost dead.

ROE
...Eczema...You shoulda told
me...

SOUND OF HEAVY ARMOR. Roe and Lipton look towards the
German line --

84 THE GERMAN LINE

A GERMAN PANZER GRENADIER UNIT, INFANTRY & SELF-PROPELLED
GUNS burst out of the forest in battle formation heading
straight across the snowy field towards the AMERICAN LINE.
The German Infantry wear WHITE CAMOUFLAGE. Armed Ghosts.

MALARKY
HERE THEY COME!

MUCK
KRAUTS!

Lipton runs to take up a firing position. MACHINE GUN FIRE
erupts. Rifles POP. Easy Company opens up from the cover of
their foxholes.

Roe is left alone with Gordon. He turns his back on the
battle, takes Perconte's scissors and cuts away the
material around the bullet holes in both of Gordon's arms.

BULLETS smack into the trees around him.

ROE
Come on, Gordon...Come on...

Alley runs up, hands Roe the plasma--

ALLEY
Jeep's coming...

--and runs toward Gordon's foxhole.

The BATTLE rages behind Roe as he puts sulfa on Gordon's
bullet wounds and slaps on field dressings.

From Gordon's foxhole, Alley helps More fire the machine
gun, returning fire at a GERMAN ARMORED CAR. Alley, glances
back at Roe...

ROE slaps field dressing onto both the entry and exit
wounds, knows he needs to get him off the line.

Gordon looks grayer now. Barely breathing. Suddenly, he
opens his eyes and whispers.

GORDON
The silk. It's for my skin,
Doc...eczema...don't tell the
boys...

ROE
You hang on, you hear me?

He looks over his shoulder as the FIRING reaches a
CRESCENDO. German troops are shot down as they penetrate
the forest perimeter.

Roe YELLS:

ROE (CONT'D)
SERGEANT LIPTON!

Lipton runs over, grabs an arm and, together, they drag
Gordon back through the trees away from the battle line.

85/6/7 IN THE WOODS:

Roe and Lipton drag Gordon through the trees, there's no
other way.

As they move deeper into the forest, the sound of the
battle recedes.

No sign of transport. They stop, check on Walter.

LIPTON
How's he doing?
(looks down at Gordon)
Walter? Walter! You okay?

Gordon doesn't answer. He looks dead.

ROE JAMS the plasma NEEDLE connected to the drip into
WALTER'S ARM. Lipton takes the plasma bottle and puts it
under his ARMPIT to help keep it warm.

Lipton looks at ROE.

LIPTON (CONT'D)
Doc...? Doc? You okay?

Roe looks exhausted, on the edge.
