Hi!
Does anyone know where I can find a piano arrangement or better, a violin arr. of the main theme? I love the music so much that's it became my morning ritual to listen to the main theme before poppong out of my room.

Hope that helps!

Derek,
That’s terrific that you have made the BOB theme available for download. This tune still brings a tear to my eye, it is that stirring. If I can make a suggestion, go to

www.audiogalaxy.com

Follow the instructions for downloading the Audio Galaxy Satellite. Then return to the site to download most of the tunes from the album. Not all of them can be found here. But there are many fine mp3 sites out there. The main theme is here. ‘Nixon’s Walk’ is incredibly harrowing, not surprisingly [background music from ep 9, Why We Fight, when Nixon returns to watch the villagers bury bodies]. ‘Plaisir D’ Amour’ is from ep 7, Breaking Point. Anyone out there speak French? Know what ‘plaisir’ means?

Derek,
Thanks how incredibly obvious! Pleasure of Love or Plaisir D'Amour is the tune playing during ep 7, Breaking Point. The scene in the nunnery [?] where Lip and Speirs have their talk. Title sounds slightly risque for this setting. Perhaps i'm reading more into this than necessary.
Sorry Derek, I am on old fashioned dial up modem. I've attempted to send my music files as attachments on emails. This is so slow as to be impossible. This is why I suggested peeps download these directly from the Audio Galaxy site. Wish i could be of more help here.

ok BoB suite 2 (3rd song on the album) is my ABSOLUTE favourite. how about yours?

Well I have a CD burner. For special peeps like the sweet girl I work with, I like to make disks with combinations of songs she likes. One day it occurrd to me to attempt to download the BOB themes the same way I would download any other music file. No ever has ever asked me to creat a CD [i couldnt do a complete one any way as not all the themes have been uploaded to the mp3 site i use].
I did record BOB and dub copies and send them to peeps who might not otherwise see it. With the help of a friend can convert PAL tapes into NTSC and vice versa, we sent a fellow BOB fan in Australia her own set of the series including the 'Making of BOB'. She has the distincion of the being the only person in Oz who owns these as BOB has yet to air there. I get extreme pleasure in knowing I had something to do with this.
Why don't I go to a store and pay for a CD? For one reason, the money I might spend could be used in other endeavors to share the BOB experience.
The fangroup I run is planning to meet this summer. I truly want to be in attendence to meet the fine peeps i have shared messages with. I look forward to sharing our thoughts on BOB. So have to plan for the plane ticket, hotel room, etc. This is why i have yet to buy the CD.

Isnt the main theme and Requiem beautiful? Michael Kamen is WONDERFUL. I have a question, which song on the CD is the song the violinist are playing in Episode 9. Its at the front of the show. They say its Mozart, but Nix comes out and says "Beethoven, thats not Mozart..thats Beethoven."

On the HBO message boards, outside of the question of the availability of the DVD, one of the questions with which we were plagued the most was about the Beethoven. I would tell people to buy the cd and it would be there. I am puzzled as to how you got past Jame Lindholm' s listing of all the tracks on the cd which is right here. Just scroll back up and, hopefully, she' ll have answered all your BoB musical questions.
Happy hunting.

There' s a posting I thought I would have found here. The melody of Plaisir d' Amour was used by Elvis Presley in "I Can' t Help Folling in Love With You." This lovely ancient song has been quite a workhorse.
My cousin who lives near New York sang grand opera. I asked her if she was familiar with the song. She sang both "Plaisir d'Amour" and "I Can' t Help Falling in Love With You" over the phone to me, a mini-concert. As I hadn' t heard her sing in a while it was good to hear her sweet voice again doing these special songs.
Elvis also lifted the melody of "Aura Lee" for "Love Me Tender."

I had to wait 2 months for my music shop to import the cd from States - let's call it geaographical matters. But still it was worth waiting so impaciently all that time and spending all these money on it, now i can listen to this moving music any time I want..
CAn anyone tell me which of the songs from the soundtrack is being played while they are getting onto the plane in the end of 1st episode? me and my brother argue, is it part of the second suite (nr 3 on cd) or "the mission begins"?
and my personal favourites must be the theme, of course, the second suite, the boy eats chocolate and plaisir d'amour

"Plaisir d'amour" is being played in 7th episode when they are in the chapel and "austria" is certainly in the 10th episode when the company is moving into Austria from Eagle's nest, i believe. you surely need to buy a sountrack just to have another materialized thing about the series :)
Ewa, i believe that you must be from Poland too, just as i'm, judging by the surname.I'd be grateful if you could contact me on this adress so we can switch opinions: layyla@o2.pl

Without question, my favorite piece of music is the Suite at the end of "Currahee," when the troopers are heading for Normandy.

It conveys the majesty, grandeur, and human importance of the invasion of Normandy. As Andy Rooney said, "It was a completely unselfish act. They were not trying to conquer Europe, but liberate it from its captors and return it to its rightful owners." the only land the American, British, and Canadian invaders sought was enough to bury their dead.

When I hear that thunderous score, over the C-47s heading into the dark over the invasion fleet, I always find my eyes tearing up.

Debbie: I got mine right after the Band of Brothers series was into its first screening of Episode 8 on HBO Asia some time back.

Teach you a trick or two... What I usually do is to call up most of the major music stores (usually HMV, Borders, Gramophone, Sembawang Music and Tower Records) and ask if that particular item I need is available in their inventory or even on their order catalogues. When you've made the necessary calls, ask the sales reps who are attending to you if they take reservations. If yes, quickly reserve the item and make sure you confirm with them how soon you would need to collect it before it's returned to the shelves. Usually they will keep it for you for 3 working days.

I hit the folks at HMV first for my BoB OST but they'd just sold their last copy. Then I called Borders, they checked their system and yep, there was one last copy.

HMV's and Borders' imported goods can be darned expensive. An alternative I suggest you might want to try for imported items is Gramophone. They have 3 outlets in Singapore if I'm not wrong: Capitol Centre next to City Hall MRT (next to the Quickly / Roibo bubble tea shop), Specialist Centre next to Somerset MRT, and Raffles Place MRT.

Tower Records do bring in imported stuff as well but it always depends on what you're looking for, and the $$$ you'd have to fork out for it.

Aya, thanks for the great advice on buying CDs. Now I can be more... shopping-smart... :) Am accustomed to only buying books, haha. I bought mine for $29.90 (standard price of soundtracks???). It burned a hole in my pocket, but oh well, it was worth it... :) Michael, thanks too, but well, folks like me (no credit card, no Paypal) can't afford stuff from Amazon. The shipping price costs even more than the item itself!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Aya (Aya) (203.120.44.202) on Friday, August 15, 2003 - 12:54 am:

Amazon.com is definitely another great online source although like Debbie, I haven't got my own credit card and occasionally use my Dad's. Which reminds me... In case some of you didn't already know this: "Saving Private Ryan" was screened in the cinemas here a few years ago but right now NO RETAIL OUTLETS are allowed to market the VCD / DVD. It's BANNED here. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SH*T!!! So I will have to get them online and see if my buddy in the States can help ship it to me. HEHEHEHHEEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEH

I think price(s) of item(s) purchased from Amazon could well add up to nearly the same - if not somewhat lesser - when compared with those purchased off the shelves here. Subject to availability of item.

Quoted price from Amazon: $13.99
Exchange rate USD to SGD: $1.7491
BoB OST in SGD: $24.47
*** Plus shipping rates and taxes if applicable.

And for off-the-rack stuff it really depends on distributor, supplier, retail franchise, etc.

Debbie got hers here for $29.90 from HMV. I've forgotten how much mine cost me but I think it was along the lines of ... $35++. From Borders.

One other drawback of getting stuff online is that sometimes it doesn't cater to international shipping. If it doesn't ship to Asia-Pacific region, I can go take a long walk on a short pier.

Aya
