We in the UK are waiting with baited breath to see young Shane Taylor's perfomance in Band of Brothers--we know it will be superb and if he dos'nt win an award for his outstanding efforts we will be most upset, but we are sure that will not be the case---

Yes, I have to agree, Shane did a wonderful job of playing Gene. Since i never got to meet Gene, i'm referring to the powerful way he was portrayed. First, I learned early on Shane is Brit. But, to these ignorant ears, his Cajun sounds dead on to me. His work in Ep 6 was incredibley intense. Yet, he wasn't impervious to what was going on around him. The fact that Gene continued despite the combat fatigue is what is most amazing!
Nice job on site, Chris and Derek!!

Yes, I agree, I totally didn't even know he was British. I would never have known unless I read the interview, which is really awesome by the way.

Just seen episode six (Well I do live in England you know!), I'd just like to say how excellent Shane was, I wonder how many people watching it realised where he was from!!
I'd never heard of him before B.O.B, (Although I'd already seen Damian Lewis and Dex Fletcher millions of times), will Shane be on our screens
again after B.O.B?

Shane Taylor is British, wow. I had no idea, that was a good accent. Although I was confused about the cajun bit. What does that mean.
Episode 6, was one of the best pieces of television I have ever seen.

The "Cajun bit" is because Eugene Roe was originally from Beau Chene, Lousiana. He died here, in Baton Rouge, in 1998.

Thanks for telling me. I didn't mean any offence by saying 'the cajun bit'. I know it sounds kinda rude, I just wasn't sure how to put it.

No offense taken...
Actually, I don't know of a better way to put it.
There were some good discussions of the Cajun thing on the HBO board, that were very funny. I'll have to dig them up and post them here for ya. In fact, one of the discussions was how us Cajuns don't get upset at much.

Thats a relief.
I read in your profile that Medic Roe was your Grandfather. You must be very proud. It's good that there is a site like this where you can go and find out more about the men of Easy. I'm really enjoying Ambrose's book , I can barely put it down and I'm thankful that Hbo/bbc bought their story to my attention.

I also think Shane Taylor did a great job in episode 6. I hope he continues acting because he is doing a great job with it. I would have never guessed he was british. When I found out i was very surprised. If anyone knows where I can find some info on him or some pics please email me at Brattygurl5588@aol.com. It will be much appreciated. THANX!!

This is a message to Chris Langlois. Thanks for sharing the great pictures of Shane and Ashley. I can't help but say that I am a little jealous that he is married. Lucky lady. If you know him can you tell him congradulations from an admired fan. I wish him all the luck in his acting career, and hope to see him in many movies to come. Also, do you have any information on Nolan Hemmings he played Chuck Grant? If you would like to e-mail me sometime, my e-mail address is ngomer1@msn.com
Thanks,

I think Shane Taylor did great with his role of Eugene Roe. I think he is a great actor and i hope i see him in future films. If any body knows where i can find some info or pics on him please email me at Brattygurl5588@aol.com. It would be much appreciated. THANX!

hi!...i'm new here...just want to say that SHANE TAYLOR did a great job in portraying Eugene Roe...Ep6-Bastogne is one of my favorite episodes...i hope that HBO will have reruns here in the Philippines...i'm missing the men of Easy Company already...it's been a week since the last replay of the last two episodes-Why We Fight/Points...
good luck to Mr. Shane T. in his career and marriage...God bless!

They say that the best actors never let you realize that they are acting. I think that statement is so true about Shane. Take the scene in ep6 after Doc has treated Welsh, after first hesitating, and Winters is coming back from the jeep to talk to Roe. Now Shane never says a word in the following scene, but his body language and facial expressions speak volumes. Watch as his body tenses as Winters approaches as if he is expecting to be reprimanded by Winters. Notice him nervously run his thumb along his lip, and then his body slumps as Winters tells him to go get a hot meal. All of these actions are the natural reactions of a medic who knew he came close to failing in his duties. I don't think the director told Shane to do all of these things, and yet they were so natural. I hope that if England does not recognize the actor that they have in Shane, That Hollywood does and we see Shane show up on American tv each week. Good luck on your acting career, Shane!

I agree! I hope he is acknowledged for his ability. It was because if his fine acting that I became a fan of BOB. I am sure that all the actors from the series will no doubt find doors opened. And all of us are looking forward to Shane's {and others} new ventures. Merry Christmas!

The first episode I ever saw was ep6. I was drawn into the emotional trauma by watching Doc. From that time on...I was hooked. I became a fan of Winters and Livingston as well...and feel the loss that the series is over. It's as if I'm no longer a part of their lives. This site helps a lot...to keep in touch with what is happening to the true heroes and those who portrayed them so well.

I've already posted this in another part of this site, but I wanted to let everyone know that Shane Taylor's birthday is Wednesday March 13th. If you would like to leave him a birthday greeting, please go to www.shanetaylor.moonfruit.com

A short update on Shane, in his own words...
"At the moment I have a play set up for the fall, Large Beast productions, back in the U.K. Have just finished their short film and I'm just about to start on a 'directing and writing' course for a short while here in Hollywood or New York if I work it out."

Shane was very gracious in sending this to our family.

Shane also sent Maxine (Roe daughter) the armband he wore in the series.

Chris,
My goodness, I have not been to Shane's page for a while [think I was messaging around in the Bastogne page, i don't know]. I see the armband you told us about last week. I didn't realize i could actually see it here. Thanks.
I really like the b/w one he sent you. He looks so focused and dedicated. Shane could treat BOB as just another project. That he maintains contact with you and the family is wonderful. This is a quality person.

Shane responded to some questions posted from his fans at the Yahoo Group...
I don't really know where to start. "Thank you" doesn't seem big enough or deep enough to even begin to express my gratitude. All I know is-you've made me a very happy boy...
Thanks to Brother Chris and my Uncle John i've been made aware of certain posts. I'm sorry i haven't been able to read them of all but thank you for your thoughts. Some of them have blown me away. Incredible. Very insightful. Others have been warm and sweet and very funny.
In response to a post recently sent to me I have this to give:
Shane Taylor.
Height:- 5' 10 1/2" - The 1/2 is very important!
Fav.Music:- Anything with John Zorn attached to it. A modern day Mozart. Based in New York.Avant-garde alto-sax player and
composer. Anything from jazz to cartoon music, traditional Jewish/classical to death metal this man can do it all!
Love P.Funk and early Stevie Coltrane and Hendrix. Curtis Mayfield and Thelonious Monk. Stones/Beatles - the usual suspects.
Today bands:- Mr.Bungle-Naked City-Ex-Girl-R.H.C.Ps and R.E.M.
Just a sample...
Fav.T.V:- Northern Exposure & Twin Peaks.
Fav.Film:- Changes all the time. At the moment it's "Cinema Paradiso" and "Buffalo 66".
Fav Actor:-Another category that changes with the wind. Ooh, it's too hard a question so I'll give you four. At the moment it's Monty Clift, Phillip Seymour Hoffman-Lilly Taylor and Mercedes Mcambridge. Apart from Monty I always prefer character actors.
Fav Director:- Even harder. Love Burton and Depp collaborations. I'm fond of gothic tones and the old hammer horror films are legendary. Love the golden era of European cinema. Fellini,
Tarkovsky, Bergman, Truffault etc. Love Buster Keaton, Scorsese and Coppola. Lumet and Elia Kazan. Woody Allen and Hitchcock. That's
enough. Next!
I play guitar and sing in a band called "Nemo" which is Latin for "nobody". I've been thinking of forming a "Band of Brothers" group to do a couple of gigs too. Smokey Gordon on drums; Penkala can play a mean guitar; I'd play bass and Malarky and Major Winters could do the vocals. Lewis can swing his pelvis like Elvis!
Lipton could produce!
The production company is going strong. We have an interesting bunch of projects we would like to do this year including one movie and two plays.
On the acting front I'm hoping to start a movie in March. It won't be a big role but it's food on the table.
I have a baby now...A little girl and her name
is "Doris". She's an eight week old kitten and her daddy keeps staring at her.
Right, I'm off. Thank you all. I really mean it! You've made me very proud.
From a shy and part-time hermit boy.
SHANE TAYLOR XX

Oww that's such a sweet letter! I totally agree, i don't think such a great man could have a non-great child. It's probebly a great daughter, and i'm very happy for him that he's blessed with one.

To everyone on this discussion board:
In addition to being a WWII reenactor in Florida, I am a very big fan of Band of Brothers. I strongly believe that this miniseries is quite frankly the best portrayal of WWII ever put on film. Moreover, after having the honr of speaking to several Easy Company veterans, I believe that each actor, both physically, mentally, and emotionally portrayed theirs characters to the utter most detail. Even though I have not had the privalage of speaking to, or kowing Medic Eugine Roe, I have had the honr of speaking (and interviewing) veterans who were combat medics, and served on the front lines in WWII. Please forgive me if my view of things differs. I have noticed that most people tend to forget about the role medics played in the war. I seems as if more high scool kids would rather hear about the B-17 pilots, or the Marines who were at Iwo Jima, or the leg infantry. Unfortunatly, when asked what the role of a medic was, I once heard a fellow classmate reply "He wears an armband and takes care of the dead."-Nothing else.
I strongly think that the roles a combat medic like Eugine Roe, or Ralph Spina played in WWII is to be reguared with great respect and honor. If it weren't for them, medical attention, and front line first aid may not have existed. Our casualty list would have been much higher, and mortality much greater.
As far as Shane Taylor's performance as Medic Roe, physically, I must say he was dead on. Now as far as acting is concerned, again, I never met Medic Roe, so I would not be able to give an acurate judgement on that. However, every Easy vet that I have spoken to agreed that his performance was right on the money!!
To Shane Taylor: If you ever get a chance to see this message, I just want you to know that I based upon the talks I've had with vets, I think your portrayal of a WWII Combat medic was super! In addition, I believe that your part in this spectacular saga is just as important as that of any CO, or above. Remember, bars or stars don't count. The ability to perform your duty efficiantly does. Congradulations on your portrayal of Easy Company Medic Eugine Roe.
Truly,
David B.

Welcome David, that was nicely said
I'm sure your message will find a way to get through Shane

Wouldn't that just be the best if Shane and the other cast members got together and started doing gigs?! It'd be really interesting especially since a lot of them have a musical background

Nicely said, David. And welcome here

I am almost 29-years-old and it should shame me to say that I developed a crush on a character in a TV series, but I'll say it anyway. I loved that Cajun accent. And I think Taylor looks a lot like Johnny Depp, my one hardcore and lifelong movie star school girl crush that even marriage can't seem to eliminate. ;)
With that silliness aside, I cannot believe how well the British actors in this series nailed the American accents. I had no idea ANY of them were British.
I think the 2 episodes that revolve around Bastogne are my favorites and in many ways the scenes in these episodes are some of the most powerful. I made my brother watch Episode 6 because he has just become a firefighter/EMT. I am also drawn to this episode because my husband's grandpa was also a WWII medic and was taken POW at the Battle of the Bulge (but he escaped after 1 day!). Because he died in the 1970's my husband never got a chance to ask him about his experiences, and in a small, but significant way I feel that Taylor's performance helped me to better understand what my grandfather-in-law must have gone through. Really I am inclined to try to find out more information about my husband's grandfather because I was so fascinated with Episode 6. It's weird to think about it, but it's a miracle that my husband even exists today!!

shane taylor portrayed eugene amazingly...the cajun accent was pretty funky, in my opinion. i really liked episode 6 and focusing around eugene roe's work and such trying to help the wounded and all.
btw, i was reading some of the earlier posts and i like the idea of making his own BOB kind of band

Awww... That was sooo sweet of Shane... *heart warms up* What a nice way to start the day... *sighs* I love his portrayal of Doc Roe... Thumbs up!
