HBO's 'Brothers' Wins First Interactive Emmy
July 18, 2002 04:48 AM ET
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - HBO's "Band of Brothers" soldiered past 77 other entries to capture the first Emmy for interactive TV programming, the TV Academy said Wednesday.
The plaque for outstanding achievement in interactive TV, single-screen enhanced, will be presented during the Emmy engineering awards presentation Sunday at TV Academy headquarters. A jury of 15 professionals, including several HBO executives, chose the winner.
"Band of Brothers," based on Stephen Ambrose's nonfiction bestseller, followed a U.S. Army airborne unit in Germany during WWII. Interactive elements delivered factoids and details about the program during the broadcasts. Viewers also could dig into more than 50 character bios, an episode synopsis, WWII timeline and other material.

I think they had forgotten the music. Too bad to think. Oh well whatever the excitement may be, I pray that the boys will bring awards after the occasion.... hoping and praying, jd

Hey JD. Glad to see you post again. That means you're not having problems posting anymore, right?
Gold

OK you caught me squared! Problems in posting, erased...

another thought,
it seems to me that the actors have no nomination. what happened?

I have no idea what happened exactly JD, seems like they ignored our beloved actors. But some of us read FJH's post in wildbill's site that it's not really bugging them that none of them has been nominated for any actors' award. They're just happy the movie got so many nominations. some of us are actually pissed off about not having any of the actors nominated, somehow, FJH's post eased us.
See ya around JD
Gold

With regard to the individual actors being nominated, you must know that EACH actor would have to sign a form to put himself in the pool to be nominated. You'll notice that the actors of "Friends" put themselves up for nomination as individuals this year for the first time. I can't speak for the "why" they did not, but that's the "how" they weren't.

Well, there you go JD. I guess the actors didn't want to take credit individually. They worked together as one, so as one, they take the credit.

you said the the "p" word. The one usually used by the army men during the war. You're a tough kind of gal.

lol JD. Tough eh? I had to reread what i posted cause i didn't quite got what you said up there.

Hey Kids!
Heard from Capt. Jack Foley this week. It seems HBO has sent invites to Jack and some of the other Easy vets. Yaaayyy!!
If you guys wanna see a pic of Jack go to
Topics>Easy Company>Lt. Jack Foley
Be warned it is huge, suggest saving it to your puter and resizing it. Hope you like it. Encourage you to post something to Jack. He's online and I'm sure he'd love to hear from you

Hey Jane, i saw the pic and it's really fantastic. Can you give Jack my love? He's one great hero!

that's great but i don't get it: they aren't on untill sep 22, right? so are they already giving away who's gonna win???!
irene (not understanding the way the emmys 'work')

Irene,
Because there are SO many categories of awards, during the week prior, they hand out the lesser awards. This happens with most large award shows (Grammy's, etc.)
You can see some of the other categories at:
http://www.emmyonline.org/national/national/default.asp

thanks chris. glad you cleared that up for me!
irene

Here are Frank John Hughes' words direct from Wild Bill's discussion group on the Emmys:
to all the band of brothers fans,
on behalf of the entire cast i thank you for your kind words and support concerning the emmys. everyone involved in the undertaking is thrilled with the 19 nominations!
as for the actors not being nominated - i think it fitting. this project was all about one thing - brotherhood. we achieved that on and off screen. that one should be singled out seems somehow wrong with this project. we do not forget the motto of the 506th - currahee - we stand alone together. and we do. i speak for all the actors when i say, i think we would almost feel uncomfortable to be singled out at emmy time.
we did this together - as one, and we shall, if all goes well, win - as one. any emmy won, in any catagory, is a win for all.
all the best,
see you in the drop zone,
fjh
FJH is a first class gentleman with his priorities in line. He displays great respect for the veterans, which is clear by reading his posts.
Paul

Chris, are you going to LA?
Paul

What a great words from Mr. Hughes. Hes telling where BoB is all about, brotherhood....
Beautiful

When is the emmy's, for we will only see it on Monday here in South Africa.
Wicus

ilja, have you heard anything about the emmys being broadcast in holland?? if so, please let me know as i am fearing the worst (don't dare saying it out loud)....
and i checked Beeb 1/2; nothing there either??!!!
irene

KTLA Channel 5...the entertainment editor shared a clip of himself with a be-stubbled Ron Livingston...the editor also mentioned that the Emmy 2002 ceremony has scheduled a 'tribute to the surviving members of Easy Company'...I didn't get to view the entire thing...came into it as I was on my to work, FYI.
Jane

omg jane now i really REALLY want to see it!
i've looked EVERYWHERE but they're not showing it on any dutch tvchannel and i didn't find anything on bbc 1/2 either
does anyone have more information?!
irene

Irene?
You get BBC1 & 2 in Holland??????
Regards, Jonathan.

Irene,
As do I...unfortunately I have not seen mention of this elsewhere...makes me nervous when i'm the only one to hear about something...
about it airing in other countries...if you haven't heard anything by now...it may not be happening...sorry, but I don't want to get your hopes up
Jane

never mind jane. i will check the internet for those short videos at hollywood.com after the show...! maybe i can see the best parts there...
jonathan; yes we get bbc 1 and 2 over here! why not? we also have german, belgian, french and italian channels....(and all this without a satellite disk.....). but it seems like it's not doing us any good....> no sign of the emmys anywhere......(and no, we DON'T have american channels exept for ccn!).
mmm that's an idea; i should check cnn!
irene

Irene,
There you go...prolly be a lot of mention of the Emmy results during the coming weeks...this evening [Sat, Sept 21], one of the channels just aired the 'Creative Emmy Awards'...Chris L posted the BOB wins...look for them by scrolling up...no signs of the actors or the vets in this...most of the winners for the featured categories [scene editing, stunt coordinating, etc] are behind the scenes types obviously...but there were also celebrities in view [for categories like 'Best Guest Actor in a Drama]... Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were shown after each BOB win.
Tip: after the Emmy broadcast, go to Yahoo Entertainment News for info...noticed during last couple of award shows, Yahoo would actually have the winner for say Golden Globe Best TV Production/Mini Series minutes after it was announced live...pretty good.
BTW, If you've been sending messages to Rossmccallgroup about your insights during Wild Bill & Babe's visit...we've not received them...at least I've not read them...so try again....shared in a chat the other night bout Wild Bill kissing your hand...the girls went nuts, LOL!!
Would so love to get you into a chat with us...everyone would love hear from you, i know...stinking time differences
Jonathan,
I know, i know, we are lecherous wimmin...so you have told us...we've never denied this, LOL!!
Jane

Jane, i'd like to have a chat with you all too. just let me know every time you organise one; i'll see if i can make it! i have not yet send other posts to the group about my visit to eindhoven. i will pick up my pics tomorrow. i'll see what i can do. but i have to think of my schoolwork too (examination on Friday). i know that once i start telling you all about it, i won't stop for like hours and hours!
irene
(PS i practically went nuts too! just kidding

Great to see the outcome of tonights awards. I really wish the writers could have won. Also great to see Dick Winters on stage, he gave an excellent acceptance speech.
I hope Susan and Chris get a chance to post about the event sometime soon.

I'm so thrilled that BoB won Best Miniseries and Best Directing. And Major Winters was wonderful! The vets looked like they were having a great time at the St. Regis.

I loved seeing Winters and the other vets there. So proud of our boys and our vets!

Gold,
Wake up sleeping princess! You're dreamimng again.
As soon as the bell rang I rushed home to watch the awards. I couldn't control myself to shout and go " Whoa!". The neighbors thought maybe that I'm watching a sports show. My, I'm so overjoyed to see Co. E. cheering and clapping.

You leave this site alone for a week and it explodes with photos! It's going to take me hours to catch up, but having had just a quick scan over, may I offer my thanks to those who posted such excellent pictures and propose that the Major receive his own award for looking so well - he's still got the presence, hasn't he?
Ah, Jones, I see you've been busy. Me, too, but not on this site - the weekend tends to find me in more interesting spots than the one in front of my computer screen. As for the Duchy, I was speaking in an historical and (for goodness sake!) jocular sense. Really, Jonesy, you can be such a pernickety crittur; you could pick more holes than Woody Woodpecker - when he's in a particularly picky mood! Now to look at these photos - see you later.

With regards to the Major (or anyone else, for that matter), all I've ever done is look into the eyes. I've seen enough footage to convince me that the Major is, and always has been a total and dedicated pro. His eyes are still razor sharp.
Hey Ziggy! The spot where my pc is consists of a big room full of history books, silk heraldic flags (I make 'em as a side business), my Scots Highland costume, medieval English and English Civil War collections of costume and various weapons spanning the ages from Ancient Greece up to World War II. Seen that scene near the end of "Highlander" when he brings his new squeeze home and they enter THAT room? That's what we're talking about, here. Since I work nearly every weekend, I rarely get to go anywhere else at that time.
Anyway, what's with speaking about the Duchy of Lancaster in the historical sense, then? Did you actually mean the county of Lancashire, instead? 'Cos they reckon that Butch Cassidy spoke with a Lancashire accent 'cos his pop was from there and they kept to the traditional Lancashire ways after they'd emigrated to America.
"Butch Cassidy and the Eyup, Our Kid" Hargh!
Hahahaha - hahahahaha, Woody.

JD, glad you saw the emmys
Ziggy, so true. I have to catch up on things here too.
