Hey all,
Well what can you say about good ol' Hoobs? He was, and kinda still is, one of my fav characters. He was such a dork! :P! He always made me laugh, and i loved him even more when he went out looking for Bull *ain't he sweet!*.
I was very upset with him dying, and the way in which he died. I cried a lot!
Oh well...can't change history *unfortunatly*.
Peter also did a great job portraying Hoobler, he also has a mischievous aura.
Ciao,
Erin

Yeah Peter did a great job. I mean he fits Webster's happy-go-lucky description of him

Hoobler was also one of my favorite characters in the series. Pete McCabe's performance had much to do with it. He always had witty lines, like when Harry Welsh said they were taking Carentan. He responded with "That sounds like fun!"
I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about McCabe's performance made the character of Hoobler very likeable. I felt the same way about Muck and Nixon.
McCabe had the same kind of aura about him when I saw him playing a detective in EastEnders on BBC. I'll try and post some pictures from those episodes...

You're right, Peter did a very good job playing Hoobs, and I believe Hoobs was a good man too. it's like Peter was so naturally like Hoobs? Or it could have been my imagination just the way all the actors seemed like the vets. ;)
Looking forward to seeing those pics, thanks philipp.

Having seen pictures of the late Don Hoobler, I can see why they casted Peter for BoB. The resemblance is amazing, to the point of being a little disturbing.
I know Hoobs was a very popular and likeable soldier in Easy Company, and Pete's performance was very reflective of that. I was quite down when he and Muck (another likeable soldier) died in The Breaking Point.
As for Pete's appearance on EastEnders, alas, I can't seem to get the pictures to appear...oh, well. At least I can tell you about it.
One very late night last November, I was really bored. I decided to flip to BBC America, as I sometimes watch Michael Palin's Travels. Instead of the usual program, I was treated to EastEnders, which I had not heard of at the time. I thought, "Well, why not? I've never seen this before."
The episode was about finding a missing woman named Lisa Fowler. One of the detectives assigned to find was a blonde woman. Her sidekick was none other than Peter McCabe. When I saw him, I thought, "Detective Hoobler, I presume?" and just laughed out loud.
Watching him was a disorienting experience because his appearance was so radically different from Hoobs. For one thing, he was wearing a dark blue suit and tie, and his hair was also a bit shorter. His accent boggled my mind. I wasn't sure whether it was Cockney, Irish, or some strange blend of both. However, just like with the role of Hoobler, Pete was witty and likeable, though the role was much more serious. He appeared in the next five or six episodes or EastEnders. His credit appeared as:
DS Steve Peters
Pete McCabe
