First meeting with Shane Taylor
Easy Company Medic Eugene Roe: Band Of Brothers Premieres: Premiere in Normandy France (on D-Day):
First meeting with Shane Taylor
Below is an excerpt from an email from Shane and all we knew about him, until we finally had a tearful/joyful meeting in France (actually on the bus to the Dinner Cruise.)
Dear Maxine,
I do hope you and your family will be able to attend the Paris reunion and premiere of "Band of Brothers" in June. I was fortunate to be able to speak to your Mother a couple of times last year about Gene as a man, and along with Bill Guarnere, Babe Heffron and Ralph Spina. I managed to get an insight into your Father as a medic and a soldier. What was evident in their description of him seemed to be that he was fine man;a good man, respected and loved. As a member of E-company, his efforts, like many others in the field of battle seem almost fantastical. Normal men amid abnormal surroundings. I remember reading a press cutting that quoted Eugene as saying something like,"If a man got injured,it was my job to go out and get him....I was a medic, thats what I did". Well, all I can say is that it's easier said huh? My point is though,it was that kind of attitude and spirit which made up these men. They were doing their duty, and doing it well! You must be very proud.
Last year was one of the biggest for me. I learn a great deal about a lot of things including myself. From boot camp to final wrap, my Band of Brothers experience will live with me forever. My name is Shane Taylor...I played your Father, "Medic Eugene Roe".
Shane is a fine man and a promising actor who was very proud to portray Medic Roe. Although at first it was wierd meeting someone who plays a member of your family, we know that we have a new life-long friend across the pond.
The pictures below are when we first met Shane, and his girlfriend Ashley.

This was our first meeting with Shane Taylor who plays Eugene "Doc" Roe, Sr. from Easy Company. We met on the Dinner cruise on the River Seine aboard the Paquebot.
After all the excitement, Tiff needed to catch a quick nap.

Dear Mr. Roe,
My name is David B. I live in South Florida, and am a WWII Reenactor. I portray Item Co, 506 PIR. I just wanted to tell you how lucky you are to have had a father who served such an important part in the war. I strongly feel that the those who served as WWII combat Medics have not received the credit they truly deserved, and that your father truly was a great person. May God Bless his should and continue to bless your family!
Sincerly,
David J. Bittan
