I have enjoyed all of the photos, and comments of those that made the trip. I'm sorry that I never met E.G., Sr. I never knew of his wartime exploits until I read his obituary, and saw BOB! Meeting him would have been a highlight in my life.

I do know E.G., Jr., and he sure does look old <g>! We are shirt-tail cousins!

Damian Lewis did a great job as Dick Winters. Since doing 'Band Of Brothers' his profile has been raised significantly especially over here in Britain and Ireland, where he recently starred in the fantastic 'Forsyte Saga.' His role was far removed from the paternal Maj. Winters.
What a series over all though!

Matt, I assume you are british too? Although I haven't really seen Forsyte Saga, I heard a lot about it and how fantastic Damian was in it. I totally agree with you. BOB was a tough break for the guys. They all did a great job of performing eash one's role. That's another thing that made me become a BOB nut! :)

Well I live in Northern Ireland but would consider myself Irish (Irish father, passport etc.) My mother is Welsh though so I am technically 1/2 British but I feel no sense of loyalty or patriotism to that nation. I do though appreciate the sacrifice made by the British armed forces during WW2 and we have them to thank for our still speaking English at this point.

Matthew, I don't mean to be too nosy, but what part of Belfast do you live in?

I actually live about 5 miles outside the City in a town called Holywood (pronounced Hollywood.) I can see the City lights from where I live. Are you familiar with the City? If not and your wondering, as many do due to bad media, do I live near a 'hot-spot' then no. Such places (and indeed TV pics) are concentrated in small enclaves in the ciy and other small places around the country. Such as Portadown where the Orangemen have been encamped since '98.

No, I wasn't going to be rude enough to ask if there were daily brawls in your area! I was in Belfast about a year ago, and was absolutely fascinated. Actually, I spent most of my time staring at those gorgeous murals on all the buildings. The only trouble I had was that I accidentally got a B&B in the Protestant section, but spent most of my time in the Catholic section. I found out the hard way that most of the cabbies weren't about to cross "the line." I certainly got an up close view of everything as I walked all...the...way...across...the...city!
But there was a wonderful guy who rescued me, and found a cab, and then proceeded to chat with me till it arrived. He had the good fortune of growing up half in Ireland and half in the States. Can you have a better childhood that that?!?!
