Today, April 26, 2002, a beautiful aluminum 25' flag pole was installed at the Camp Toccoa monument.
Next step - Install a spot light to be left on at night. Next step - Dedicate the flag and pole. Future Plans - Depending on funding, we would like to install an Airborne Walk around the flag pole with four monuments, one for each of the regiments that were organized and trained at Camp Toccoa during World War II, The 506th, 501st, 511th and 517th Parachute Infantry Regiments.
We, the Stephens County Historical Society appreciates and salutes each of the four regiments and Thank God for each of you. God bless you and God bless America.

Lamar further explains the monument...
We installed and dedicated the monument in 1990. I was introduced to the design in 1989. When we dedicated the monument in November 1990, I told Stuart Lyle, the designer, that he would have to be on the program, make a speech and inform the people about the design. WWII veteran, 11th Abn Div, Stuart said, "We are a diminishing group of people (WWII Veterans), there is not much left of us, we are almost gone". Thus, just the boots and rifle barrel showing of the WWII paratrooper. How aptly his design describes that thought.
