What a great tribute. I think I may have met some of you in Paris. I wrote Episode Six about Eugene and, although I never met the man, and only talked to Myrtle a couple of times, I am so honored to have had the chance to dramatize the struggles he went through...and his humanity.

The medics suffered more than any other combatants. That's what everyone told me.

All the men of Easy loved Gene...and I hope that the director was able to convey the respect that I developed for him through my research.

Currahee!

Bruce, you did meet a lot of us. All of us, I think. What a great time! I think we met on the dinner cruise. Your table was over by Mr. Spina's, if I'm not misstaken.

I think Mr. Leland caught what you were aiming for. Without revealing too much about the episode, it's VERY moving.

Thank you from all the family for your involvement in BoB.
And thank you for your kind words about my Grandfather.

Great site!! I've read Dr. Ambrose's book through several times and am proud that so many of the "brothers" hail from within my half of Pennsylvania. Is it possible to get info on where I could go to have guys like Heffron, Guarnere and Winters autograph my copy?? I'd be proud to meet them.

Reach me at nehpets@gateway.net

I am a great fan of Mr.Ambrose`s historical fact books. I have D-Day, Citizen Soldiers, and Band of Brothers. I enjoyed them all, and was amazed with the way the the author wrote like a novelist and a historian. He is indeed a great author, and through his work I have come to respect the WW2 vets who fought in the war. Thank you.

If you post a message with inteligent content, I will leave it here.

You should quit being a dumbass. You're not only posting in a public place, but you do need to show a little respect both for those who fought for your freedom to be a dumbass and say whatever you want, and for my Grandfather, for which this site exists.

This site is owned by me, and I reserve the right to remove anything I deem offensive. Post something intelligent, and it will stay. Spew oral diarrhea, and I'll wax it.

You go Derek! Way to tell 'em. My grandfather was captured in the Phillipines in 1942, was on the infamous Bataan Death March, and survived 42 months in their prison camps. He was not unlike Winters, strong, silent, and a leader when he had to be. He didn't talk about his experiences much, but I knew there was great pain in his mind. He was a great man, as I am sure your grandfather was. What a tribute to him from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The whole show has been wonderful so far. I can't wait to see the next 3 Episodes. Great web site!

This is fantastic site to go along with a great and moving series. I've watched most episodes at least twice and am taping the whole thing for a coworker of mine who is in the airborne reserve who doesn't have HBO. Keep up the good work. Don't worry about the dumbasses.

Oh yeah by the way, I do have an idea. Its hard to keep track of some of less familiar, but still very important characters. A small, labeled montage of names and faces and of course a mugshot of the real guys that they played...that would be really helpful.

I have absolutely been amazed at how well done this mini-series is and have been scrounging for info about the 506th and what has happened to all the men I feel like I know because of the series and the book. I watch the series, I read the accounts, and I think how great these men are for what they gave up for this country to be free. Thanks for a great site.

Hello,

First of I am new to this web-site so forgive me if what follows is out of turn or perhaps posted in the wrong place.

First off Band of Brothers is an excellent series. It has special significance to me as I live in Aldbourne. Not only that but each day I go to work in one of the surviving Nissen huts that Easy Company were billeted in during there training prior to D-Day. I hope one day to be able to meet some of the surviving members of Easy.

I was wondering if anyone here has an account with wireimage.com that's interested in possibly e-mailing me a full size picture from the site. Very cool site. I was surprised to see so much about my dad, Rod Bain, because he is very shy and doesn't talk a lot about the war. I watched the episode featuring Doc Roe and have the greatest respect for what he must have gone through. Thank God he was around to patch up my dad and the others. I also was deeply moved by the last episode. I just sobbed and sobbed when I watched that artillery scene because I knew it could have been my daddy. Dad came over today and said he was 20 feet away from Wild Bill & Toye when they lost their legs. He said Lipton really was yelling at everyone to say down, stay in the foxholes. What a mess.

Hi! I'm new here, but I just wanted to say what a wonderful series Band of Brothers is. I am a teenage girl, and I have to say that many people don't consider us to be even remotely interested in WW2. I, however, am greatly interested in WW2, mainly because my grandfathers were, like Babe Heffron and Bill Guarnere, two young,Italian-American men from South Philly who enlisted to fight in the war. I have seen many war movies, and none have touched me as deeply as Band of Brothers. Your grandfather must have been an amazing man, and I know you're as proud of your grandfather as I am of both of mine. This a great site, and I wish you good luck in running it!
Sincerely,
Maria

P.S. I would be lying if I said that Shane Taylor wasn't one of the most gorgeous men I'd ever seen--I am a teenage girl, afterall! I would love it if you could post any info on this talented, handsome young actor, and his latest projects. Thanks!

maria,
i'm a teenage girl, and reading your post was like reading my mind ! my grandfather fought in ww2 (he was actually in the infantry division that "rescued" easy in bastogne. like they needed it!). and i find it really sad that not many girls my age find such a passion for history, especially the "grittier" parts. such a shame.

i love this site, i have but only one question. so many posters here are distinguished relatives of the men of easy and the actors that have brought them to life. is there not a list or introduction thread so that i can keep them all straight? but truely, in all respects, this site has been an amazing resource for me -- i love coming here everyday to read the latest posts. i've been lurking for several weeks.

xoxox,
annie

Annie, you can click on the poster's name above each post and get some more info on who wrote the post.

I'll try and get the familiy members to post thier relations to Medic Roe, and to the other members of Easy. In fact, I'll add a profile field for it, as soon as I think of a good name for it.

Thanks for the idea!

It's nice to know that I'm not the only other teenage girl on this board. I'm still searching the web high and low for any info on Shane Taylor, and I'm finding nothing! Grrr...But I know that we'll be hearing a lot more about this talented cutie, I just hope that it's sooner than later! God, I sound like such a teeny-bopper, but I swear I'm not :o)
Marie

P.S. Last night's episode...yikes! I always watch Band of Brothers with my dad, and the part where Spiers walks in on the soldier and his girl doin' the nasty...ugh I DID NOT need to see that, let alone with my dad next to me lol. Poor Liebgott...it must have been so incredibly hard and unreal to witness the horror of the camps.

maria,
last night was particularly hard for me since i am a jew, and many members of my family were in similar camps.
it's such a brillant show. and i think shane taylor is one of the most talented actors i have yet to see. sadly, i know nothing about him.
as in effects to the sex scene, maybe i just don't get flustered, but things like that just don't embarass me. even with my dad or mom in the room. oh well.

... oh, and i have another question. i understand wild bill is a funny, sarcastic guy, but what exactly makes him "wild" is there a story or something?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Maria Marchisello (Serendipity1702) (205.188.199.174 - 205.188.199.174) on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 05:09 pm:

"Wild" Bill's son is my uncle's best friend, and my cousin's godfather. (Did ya get that? hehe) South Philly guys like my grandfathers, father, and uncle know how to have fun lol. There's a real solidarity among the people of South Philly that you can't find anywhere else. As for the story of why he's called "Wild" Bill, I have an idea but I'll let someone else who knows all the facts answer. I'm sorry that last Sunday's episode was so hard for you. I'm Catholic, yet I consider Anne Frank to be my personal heroine. I have several books on her, as well as more than a few various additions of her amazing diary, which serves as my bible lol. I've written several reports on both Anne and the diary, and I've even portrayed her in a drama club workshop at my school. Last spring's mini-series "Anne Frank: The Whole Story" took my breathe away, and I recently made my second trip to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. Well I'm done gabbing now--mom's calling me for dinner.

In regards to Mr Guarnere's nickname...im pretty sure I remember hearing from some of the veterans at the premier that he was "Wild Bill" because, when he dropped on D-Day, he killed any German in site, since they killed his brother a few days earlier. That is how he acquired his nickname.

I'm new to the site and have fallen in love! Like alot of the others here, I have been looking for something like this.
I am overcome with emotions since watching Band of Brothers...they ALL get to me. My sister and Father who are practically WWII historians have been a huge help to me since they didn't really teach enough of this stuff when I was in school. Hopefully this series will change that. I have a couple of relatives who were in the war which also makes me feel "closer" to all of this.
I have a place for all WWII vets, but since watching the shows, my heart belongs to Major Winters. I'd like to find more info and photos on him. Gorgeous man! Saw his pics on the Time Classroom Band of Brothers website. Also looking to send out some "thank you" notes - (even though I know that will never feel like enough).
Thanks again for this!!

Thank you for this site! It's great to know that there is such an interest in events that happened such a long time ago. People need to realize that the men of Easy Company were just ordinary men in extraordinary situations. They were all heroes and they deserve all the recognition that they are receiving. We owe our lives and our way of life to all those heroes. If a person wants to post a message on this site, honoring the hero Eugene Roe, they should ensure that it is respectful. Thank you again for providing all of us with such a great site.

I'd like to thank Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and the rest of the the cast and crew of Band of Brothers for making what I think is the best miniseries, the best war movie, and the best work I've ever seen on television. What an incredible accomplishment! I don't think I have enough superlatives in my vocabulary to give this magnificent work all the praise it deserves. And to the men of Easy Company, I wish I could shake the hand of each and every one of you.

I didn't know where to write this and so I thought this was the best place to put these thoughts I have in me. I hope you still check this site since the series is over and all that. I have lived through the lives of the men of Easy company ever since the mini series premeiered in September 2001. In the wake of September 11 it was something that sort of, even though it was dreary, depressing and was a story of war, brought hope into my life that there were and there still are men like Winter, Guarnere and the rest of Easy company as well as the other troops that fought in Europe and in the Pacific. Although I wasn't born at the time of the war, I wasn't even here for Vietnam (but that's another story there), I am still grateful to the American men and women who fought in the war to preserve freedom and honor. Although, what experience I (my family) have is nill on the part of the European war against Hitler, my grandfathers fought for the freedom of my country, the Philippines. There is a memorial cemetery in the Philippines with thousands and thousands of crosses and stars of david dedicated to the men who fought for the freedom of the world. Somewhere in this vast expanse of memory, my grandfathers served with one or two or ten of these men. Members of the US Armed Forces, the same 'family' that Easy was a member too. I don't know if I made sense here, I am overwhelmed by the success and impact of 'Band of Brothers', I just felt compelled to thank you and everyone for remembering these men and what they stood for.
Whatelse can I say for now but nothing. I'm young, but I want to learn more about Easy company and the war efforts because I know, that what happened in Europe was the tide that turned the war in the Pacific and Easy did something to make it happen. And now I'm alive, my mother's alive and my country is free. Thank you! Salamat!

This website is great! I love it! i discovered it awhile ago and ever since then i come back to it like everyday. It is very well put together and has great info. I really admire the men of Easy Company who fought in the war and t he people who portrayed them! they did an excellent job! I also have to agree with a lot of what people were posting. I think Shane Taylor is a gorgeous and talented man. His wife is so lucky. I love the picture of them at their wedding on this site. they look like the perfect couple. Congrats to them. They look great together. If anyone can tell me where there is some info on him or some pics then please email me at Brattygurl5588@aol.com. It would make my day. I also think Ross McCall who plays Joe Liebgot is so gorgeous! He also does a great job portarying him. If anyone has any info on him or any pics then please email me at the same address above. Thanx! I would also like to say thank you to the people who created this site. you did a great job and thank you for making it enjoyable. it really helped me learn more about the war. Thank you and keep it up!

You guys are bigger and stronger than any athlete and have helped my children see what real heroes are. God bless you and your families!

To the site master and all involved:

I've been enjoying this site for the last two weeks. It's easy to navigate, full of all the information I've been looking for about BoB and the real men of Easy Company and the 101st Airborne in general. I love reading the comments and stories from the family members as well. I have this site bookemarked and I visit it at least once a day! Thank you so much for putting your time and energy into this.

After reading the book and watching the series Band Of Brothers, I have been moved by what I have both read and watched. My Grand-father served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
I would just like to express my thanks to all of the heroes who fought in Easy Company and every man who served in World War 2 to fight for all of our freedom. I felt that I should thank the real life heroes and their families that are so often not mentioned or forgotten. But these great men, will never be forgotten in the minds of many who know the story of Easy Company, I know I will never forget it.

Hi Stephen,

Without the ability to get specific, Toccoa is Northeast of Atlanta. When you get there there are several people to look up. Lamar Davis is one, he and his lovely wife are great friends of the 506. His wife is part of the Historical Society there. He also has a great friend named Ray who is also a wealth of knowledge. Another one of the great people of Toccoa is Ed Dooley who is the President of the VFW. You must stop in for dinner and drinks. The train station that most of the men came in on is still there. When I was there I a spent some time there just reflecting at the time when it was a busy place and how many men went threw. There is a new monument there renaming the trail to the top of Currahee. Named for Col. Sink. One other monument just up the road a bit which includes all the companys that went threw Toccoa. The folks of that part of Georgia are wonderful people and are very proud of there town and all the men that came threw there. One last thing is that you can get a Krispy Kreme on the edge of town.

Until next time,

George

To the family of Medic Roe - thank you for this site. I've surfed through it many times since discovering it.

Like so many of the others here, I was so deeply moved upon learning, more clearly, what it was like for the men in the European Theatre of WWII. Like everyone else here, I wish I could hug them all and personally thank them.

The experience of BoB has left me with such a range of feelings. On the one hand, it has caused to me to re-feel the loss of my own father, a Navy veteran of Korea, who died in 1993. On the other hand, the feelings of gratitude motivated me to attend the local Veterans Day parade and shout "thank you" to the veterans. I was weepy during the whole parade, but completely sobbed when the Vietnam veterans came marching by - I remember how they were treated when they came home. But yes - I especially remembered to shout "Thank you for serving!" when they came by.

One wish I have for this site is that it would contain the names of those who gave all. We now know the names of the survivors as though they were members of our own family. It seems appropriate that we learn the names of, as Bill and Babe put it, the "real heroes...the ones who didn't come home."

Again, guys, I'm sure your Grandpa is smiling somewhere, beaming with pride, at what you boys have done!

With kindest regards,
Robin

I just wanted to let everyone know that the grand opening of the Pacific wing of the National D-Day Museum here in New Orleans will be on Friday, December 7th, Pearl Harbor day. The grand opening will take place on Friday. There will also be a parade featuring re-enactors, local military and of course, the most important people, the Veterans. On Saturday there will be 2 different re-enactments. One battle will be a beach landing in an original Higgins boat and LVT-4. The other re-enactment is of the Pearl Harbor attack. Many original planes will be used in this one, including the CAF's TORA TORA TORA Squadron, a Navy PBJ (B-25), A Navy Helldiver , a Navy F4F Wildcat, and many others. I know a lot of you don't live around here, but if you do or if you're just willing to make the trip, it is going to be an awesome event. Please try to come down for it. I'm looking forward to meeting the Veterans. It's always a memorable experience. If any families of Easy veterans are going to come, I'd appreciate if you'd e-mail me (Krissy453@hotmail.com)!

Hey,I'm Joe Toye's grandson, whoever said something about those philly guys having something nobody else had,was very right. He was portrayed as kind of a quiet tough guy, Which he was, but he also was similar to "wild bill". They were very close friends. Bill did my grandfathers Eulogy at his funeral. If anyone has heard anything abou him from maybe some of the veterans, I wouldlove to see it on here, thanks
