I'm 72 and a veteran of the Korean conflict. I was in my early teens when the Easy Company was going through Hell. The "Band" has given me a totally new aprecation of what a great group of men made up this courageous outfit.

Chris/Everyone
I received a copy of the magazine today! It's excellent!..From the beautiful paintings inside the front cover - right to picture on the back of the mag!!..I found it extremley interesting, I havent been able to put it down yet!! I was intrigued to read that in Devizes (Not a million miles from where I live) before the troops were deployed, there was a massive fight between the 101st and British 6th Airborne there, which took three platoons of American military police to stop.!!
I liked Tom Hank's comment...'this project (Band of Brothers)has been three years in the making, and I don't really feel as though those of us involved in what has been a huge undertaking are at the end of any sort of creative endeavor. It seems to me that we are at the beginning of an extremely emotional one'
...I hope you don't mind me shareing my views!!..
love from
Jane

The boys gather to watch a "friendly" fight...
Looking from the right edge of the line, first man is Guarnere, next is Jim Alley, next is Sobel. Then in the middle is Skip Muck and Don Hoobler, sort of the two right at the upswing of the arm, also Forrest Guth and Phil Peruginni.

'Sink Grail' at Camp Greaves has roots
in capture of Hitler's mountain lair
By Jeremy Kirk, Seoul bureau chief
Andy Dunaway / Stars and Stripes
Maj. Tom Hiebert holds the "Sink Grail."
CAMP GREAVES — When U.S. soldiers pressed into Hitler’s mountain hideaway near the end of World War II, they found jewels beyond comprehension.
Hitler’s grounds in Berchtesgarden on the Austria and Germany border were rife with liquor, fancy cars and weapons.
Allied soldiers — including the French and British — were both clamoring to be the first inside his lair.
It was Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment — part of the 101st Airborne Division — who made it there first and plundered the spoils, sampling Hitler’s stash of food and booze. That same unit, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, has been stationed in South Korea since 1987 along the Demilitarized Zone.
Easy Company’s trials, which included D-Day action and bursting into Hitler’s home, are the subject of a 10-part HBO miniseries produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Based on the book Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose, the series has been broadcast the last two months in the United States and will be shown on American Forces Network on Nov. 12.
The recipe ...
In the true boozing spirit that followed Easy Company’s romp through Hitler’s house, a celebratory recipe was created for the Sink Grail, a trophy crafted by the unit’s soldiers. The silver trophy cup was made of melted goblets and flatware from Hitler’s private dining room. The recipe comes from an old memo published at Fort Campbell, at one time home of the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment headquarters.
Recipe for the Sink Grail
1. One bottle of pure moonshine from the hills of Northeast Georgia near Camp Toccoa, the birthplace of the regiment.
2. Two bottles of Calvados from the historic wine cellars of Normandy.
3. One bottle of swamp water wrung from Col. Sink’s socks after dropping into the swamps of the River Douve, behind the beach of Normandy.
4. One rusty can of Bom-e-Bom beer.
5. One bottle of Belgian white wine mixed with a beer of dubious descent from a house near Bastogne.
6. Two bottle of sekt from Hitler’s cellars on the Ober Salzberg.
7. One bottle of French champagne strained through a black silk stocking and funneled through a toeless black spike-heeled shoe.
8. Brandy from the hip flask of Wehrmacht General Tolsdorff, captured at Bad Gesten, Austria.
9. One bottle of Absorbine Jr., left over from the latest 25-mile road march.
— Jeremy Kirk
But missing from Ambrose’s book is how soldiers fashioned a lasting memorial to their wartime successes, a prize that remains in South Korea today with the unit’s descendants.
Berchtesgarden, Ambrose writes, was a center for top-ranking Nazis, and many had homes in the area to be closer to Hitler. The area was full of war loot, including massive wine collections, art treasures, gold and money, Ambrose wrote.
Under the guidance of Col. Robert Sink, the company’s men encountered little German resistance and entered what Ambrose describes as a "fairy-tale land" with snow-capped mountains. Many of Hitler’s service people and soldiers still occupied the buildings but didn’t oppose the soldiers.
What proceeded next was an orgy of looting that saw soldiers take Hitler’s photo albums, guns, and luxury cars used by Nazi commanders.
From Hitler’s private dining room, soldiers took silver goblets and flatware and part of a table leg. They melted the goblets and crafted a trophy, commemorating the unit’s activation.
The trophy’s handles are from a regiment T-7 parachute. Mounted on the front are Sink’s original jump wings. Sink graduated from West Point in 1927 and commanded the unit until the 101st was deactivated in 1945 in France.
The trophy, known as the "Sink Grail," remains at Camp Greaves with the infantrymen who carry on the unit’s legacy.
"This is like our most prized possession," said Maj. Thomas E. Hiebert, battalion executive officer. "It’s pretty special."
Hiebert has the receipt from when the trophy was sent from the museum at Fort Campbell, Ky., in 1987. While the Sink Grail has remained in the battalion’s careful hands over the years, Hiebert said plans are under way to display it in a case in one of the camp’s renovated dining halls.

On a damp June morning 57 years ago, Buck Compton and Jim Alley jumped into history.
Compton and Alley, along with thousands of other paratroopers, swarmed the French coast as the initial assault on the Normandy coast began shortly after 1 a.m. on June 6, 1944.
Their parachutes blossomed against the eerie illumination of German anti-aircraft fire and U.S. planes engulfed in flames.
“I saw a series of tracer bullets shoot down seven to eight paratroopers shortly after I landed,” Compton said.
A few miles away, Jim Alley smashed against a walled garden as he hastily unbuckled his parachute while German troops fired at him.
“I was scared in those hedgerows, getting shot at and not knowing where it was coming from,” he said. “Fortunately, the Germans shot low and missed me.”
Compton, Alley and other members of the 101 Airborne Division Easy Company 506 in World War II are depicted in a 10-part HBO miniseries. The series debuts with two episodes at 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, and with others following on consecutive Sundays through Nov. 4.
Cara Eastwood / Skagit Valley Herald
The miniseries follows the young soldiers from a Georgia training camp in 1942 to the D-Day battle to liberate Europe. The series includes Operation Market-Garden in Holland, a failed British strategy, and the German counteroffensive during the Battle of the Bulge.
HBO representatives say the $120 million made-for-television project is the largest budget ever for a TV production. It is produced by Hollywood heavyweights Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
The 10-part miniseries is based on the 1992 book Band of Brothers written by historian Stephen E. Ambrose.
The two Skagit County residents were only 21 when they enlisted.
Jim Alley signed up for the U.S. Army after seeing a recruiting poster for paratroopers in his hometown of Mount Ida, Ark.
“My parents said I signed my death warrant,” he said.
Alley, 79, a retired general contractor who now lives in Marblemount, said the miniseries is historically correct.
“This is the most fantastic thing Spielberg and Hanks have ever done,” Alley said.
As a small boy growing up in Los Angeles, Buck Compton idolized baseball catchers Mickey Cochrane and Gabby Hartnett. Compton later would go on to play football and baseball at UCLA with Jackie Robinson.
Compton enlisted in the Army one month after UCLA played its first Rose Bowl in 1943, losing to Georgia, 9-0.
After a three-month stint at the officer’s training school at Fort Benning, Ga., Compton shipped out to England for more paratrooper training.
On D-Day, Compton and other paratroopers from his unit were assigned the task of securing three causeways over swamps near Omaha Beach, on the Normandy coast, he said.
When Compton jumped, the propeller blast from a C-47 transport plane broke his chin strap and sent his ammunition duffel bag to the ground. He landed in an orchard surrounded by hedges, unarmed. He later retrieved a Thompson submachine gun and grenades from a wounded paratrooper.
Peering through some shrubs, he spotted two German artillerymen.
“Doing my best Jimmy Cagney impersonation, I jumped out from the shrubs and confronted them,” Compton said. “I pulled the trigger and found I had a broken firing pin. Their jaws dropped when that happened. But then I let go with a hand grenade, which landed on top of them and killed them.”
After the war, Compton turned down the chance to play professional baseball and enrolled in law school at Loyola University. He later worked in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and served as the lead prosecutor in the trial of Sirhan Sirhan, convicted of assassinating Sen. Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles.
Compton said he doesn’t feel like a hero.
“When I was back home after the war, I saw all these guys shot up,” he said. “I’m not any braver than the thousands of other guys who slogged through the war.”
Alley said the miniseries is important for younger generations to see.
“So many kids don’t know what sacrifices we made,” Alley said. “We came closer than we think to losing that war.”
The scroll is behind the bar of the Blue Boar Inn, which is to the right of the Village Green in Aldbourne.
From Jake Powers....It is of the "Kegler Club". That club was composed of many of the 2nd battalion 506th officers. Their HQ/drinking spot was the Blue Boar. There are several E men that are in that club (although not E men at the time)...Hester (Batt HQ) Nixon (Batt HQ) Meehan & Welsh. The "Winters" on the list of the club is "Alfred" Winters, not our Dick Winters.

Vets Day event rises above rain
SUSAN L. SERBIN, Times Correspondent November 12, 2002
Members of Easy Company, Richard Winters, left, and Forrrest Guth, right are joined by Rep. Curt Weldon at yesterday's Veterans Day festivities in Media. (Times staff/Eric Hartline)
Stormy weather took its toll on the 43rd Annual Delaware County Veterans Day Parade as organizers made the call to cancel the event. However, the spirit of the day won out as organizers scrambled and came up with an alternative.
"We started hearing from school groups saying bands wouldn't be participating, especially if there was any suggestion of an electrical storm,'' said Joyce Doubet, a Media businesswoman and board member of the Veterans Legacy Project.
With a number of special guests already headed for the county seat, Doubet, Media Mayor Bob McMahon, Veterans Legacy Director Bob Dimond, Media councilmen Pete Alyanakian and Paul Robinson, and others involved in the planning scheduled a smaller but meaningful indoor event. More than 150 guests gathered at the Towne House on, appropriately, Veterans Square.
"Regardless of the weather, nothing could deter our spirit or our appreciation for the men and women of our Armed Forces,'' said Upper Providence resident and Hall of Fame announcer, Harry Kalas, serving as emcee.
It may have been scaled down, but the afternoon event included much of the requisite pomp and circumstance: an honor guard from the county's Sheriff's Office, Old Glory flags presented by the Sun Valley Marine Corps Junior ROTC, and patriotic songs from state police Sgt. Kevin Pierce and the Penncrest Choral Ensemble.
In his invocation, the Rev. Edward Battle of Morton remarked the Veterans Day gathering continues to "honor the protection of our freedoms,'' and that "this country serves as a beacon for all others.''
"Honoring the Protectors of our Freedom'' was the parade theme. Two Band of Brothers WWII veterans, Forrest Guth and Richard Winters, were accompanied by grandchildren and participated in the flag exchange. The ceremony, begun four years ago, has come to symbolize a passing of the veterans' legacy from one generation to another, and several local families took part yesterday.
At 27, Karen Gilbert has grown up knowing of her father's war service. Ray Stankus, of Nether Providence, a Vietnam combat veteran, shared military tradition and stories with his children. Gilbert said she recalled outings where marching to cadence was the rule. As she grew older, the information became more involved.
"My dad was very open about his experience. He wanted us to learn from it. Our lives were like a history lesson,'' said Gilbert, now a teacher. "Seeing him in parades (in an honor guard) always make me proud. And he was proud of his duty.''
Pleased at his daughter's participation in the flag exchange, Stankus, a member of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 67, was also awed by his predecessors.
"It's a miracle they're alive,'' he said of the Band of Brothers vets. "There was no R & R, no medivac, no chance of recovery. They were in it until the war was over. They did have the full support of the country, and we didn't,'' Stankus observed.
Asked if his generation of veterans would take up the banner as the number of WWII vets inevitably decreases, Stankus said, "I think things are changing. There was a big difference in attitude after the (Vietnam Memorial) Wall was built in 1982. I think many vets are putting the hurt behind them.''
An even younger generation understands the veterans legacy. Sarah, 9, and Rachel Donahoe, 11, exchanged flags with their parents, Gerry Donahoe and Kathy Hamblett of Media. The Coast Guard is the "family business,'' with Donahoe retired from that branch and both the girls' grandfathers Coast Guard veterans. Hamblett retired this October after 26 years on the service, most recently as chief of Port Operations at the Port of Philadelphia.
"I feel satisfied that I've done my part for my country,'' said Hamblett, wearing the uniform proudly.
Michael Grunde, of St. Laurence School, said in his prize-winning essay, he considered the veterans selfless, patriotic and courageous. Those numbers included his grandfather, a pilot lost for three months.

does anyone know how to get the WO2 presents band of brothers magazine in holland. I can't order it since I don't have visa or mastercard.
Try e-mailing the publishers customer service people and ask if you can just purchase the single issue. I would be surprised if they don't already have overseas subscribers, so they deal with foreign currencies already. In any case, it never hurts to ask.
WORLDWARII@PALMCOASTD.COM is the e-mail address for customer service. Good luck. BK
Thanks BK
I send them a email.
Now I just have to wait for a reply. I hope they can send me a copy, I would really like to have it.

Hi guys
A little time ago I had to make a hole work about the war and I asked about it on my grand mom (she lived during the 2ww's)and when I was telling her about band of brothers and this site he started telling aboud the amarican & Brittish soldiers she met and she said that I had to say thank you to all the guys of Easy, who fought for us,and to all the soldiers who had been so gentle for her during those times so ***ThAnK YoU*** :-D
Oh and I also have a small question, it hasn't got to do anything with this but yesterday I was reading the 'Washington post' on the internet and are you guys really that mad at Belgium, hope not :-S!!!!
Bye
XxXxStephanieXxXx
They are mad with everyone Stephanie
Hargh! joao.
Stephanie, it's all down to politics and not the ordinary folks on the street. If a nation's drumming up support for a war with another nation. Or, in this case, if the son of one man (who, in his day pulled the plug too early) is drumming up support for a war against another man -unless your nation agrees straightaway - you're going to be branded in various negative ways. That's just the way things are.
I don't think we should turn this into a USA banishing topic.
Please remember what this site is about:
It was made in the memory of Medic Eugene Roe & the men of Easy Company.
These men fought for our freedom.
I know that we have the right to express our views & opinions but this is not the right place.
Melissa

Honoring a band of brothers -- and sisters
March 2, 2003
By Ann Conway, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
SOCIAL CLIMES
It only seemed as long as the Korean conflict. And never mind that laughs for comedian Norm Crosby's jokes -- "I know a lot of guys who like to date homeless women. You can drop them off anywhere!" -- were missing in action. The U.S. Vets Gala was a star-spangled extravaganza that heightened guests' awareness of one of the country's most disturbing problems -- homeless veterans.
A benefit raising more than $300,000 for the United States Veterans Initiative Inc., which provides transitional housing and job training to vets across the country, the Feb. 21 event began with a silent auction and ended with a performance by the Fifth Dimension. What came in between should keep guests humming patriotic tunes for months.
Nancy Conrad, widow of former astronaut Pete Conrad, led a tribute to the victims of the recent Columbia space shuttle disaster. "Space is a very dangerous place -- the astronauts all knew they might not come back," she told more than 900 guests gathered in a ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "The threads they have woven are part of the tapestry of man's insatiable desire in his quest for knowledge and advancement."
Also on the red-white-and-blue agenda were tributes to servicemen from Easy Company -- Jim Alley, Buck Compton, Don Malarkey and Richard Winters -- the subject of HBO's "Band of Brothers," and retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Peter J. Gravett. Others recognized for service to their country were Anthony Principi, secretary of Veterans Affairs; veterans Juan Alvarado and Jerry Ford; George Vinson, director of the Office of Homeland Security for Gov. Gray Davis; and actress Connie Stevens.
During the cocktail reception, Gravett -- whose jacket was a rainbow of colorful medals, known in military slang as a "vegetable patch," he said -- called the veterans' initiative a "fantastic charity.... We need to make more people aware of the vets who live on the streets and raise more funds to help them get their lives back on track."
Stevens downplayed her Celebrity Leadership Award, saying, "I don't do things for awards. What I really like to do is bring attention to our veterans and support them. Once you have servicemen deployed in the world, you must support them.
"I've been on the hospital ships and on the battlefields, and once you've done that, you come back a different human being."
Reading the above article reminded me of May 13, 1997, when there was a multiple celebration of the 70th anniversary of both the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Chinese Theater, the 50th anniversary of the US AIr Force and the 74th birthday of Johnny Grant, the honorary mayor of Hollywood. In honor of Grant' s many services locally and abroad, a hand and foot cement ceremony was held in front of the theater where Grant became the first person to misspell his own name. Among those there to honor him was Connie Stevens who mentioned that she had gone with Grant on several trips to entertain the servicemen. Also there was Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and WWII veterans Mickey Rooney and Gene Autry among others.
Especially when someone is older, coming into contact with the soldiers can have an effect on someone whether an entertainer or not. I noticed how young many of the reenactors which included vets and reservists as well as some civilians were.
One of the most affected was Al Jolson. After his WWII experiences, when the Korean War started he made an ill-advised trip at his age to entertain the troops and broadcast a message chastising the other entertainers to go over there. He died a month after returning.
The entertainers then for the most part were a better, more patriotic breed than much of the current lot.

Hi Everyone,
For all you fans of Shifty Powers, I added a new post in the "Shifty Powers" section. You should read it!
- Matt
Hello Everyone,
Recently I got a few letters in the mail. One from Earl McClung, Shifty Powers, and Don King. Each of these men wrote me a kind note about events that they were proud of during the war. I got some touching responses. Mr. King also sent me an interesting zerox he had made. It was a typed out poem that was sent to him by Major Winters, and Major Winters had signed it on the back. I'll try to type it up and post it soon. Again, these men are just so special and meaningful to me.

Hey Matt, that's very nice. I hope we get to read it soon

I have just found this site and spent many a lunch time reading through all the postings. Its great to see how much interest there is. It is really interesting reading about the members of Easy and peoples perceptions of the mini series. I was really pleased when I found out that it was going to be released on video/DVD as i emailed the BBC and they said there was no plans to release it. Unfortunately, i have not read the book yet, but from peoples postings i think i should definately do so.

Could anybody give me a list of places in Holland where easy company has been? I know they landed north of Eindhoven and then went to the west to Neunen. As far as I could figure out, they then went to Nijmegen (or near there). So how did they get there (there are several routes from Eindhoven to Nijmegen). I tried to enlarge the picture of the route that Chris posted further up on the page, but it didn't work. I am interested, as I live in the south of Holland and visit Eindhoven and Nijmegen often for work. I have noticed there is a bridge just north of Eindhoven called the Airborne bridge, and I'm sure there are many more places like that (if you know where to look).

With regards to some of the things posted above:
Webster mentions some of the members of the Kegler club in his book. Lt Freeling Colt was his original platoon leader in F Company. He was a lawyer pre war and accorind to Webster "commanded his platoon with more reason than severity." Webster called him "The only officer I could ever talk to." He drowned in his chute in the swamp behind Utah Beach.
Jerre Gross commanded D Company. According to Ambrose he met Winters at dawn of D-Day. He had gathered 40 of his men. Webster called him "The ideal company commander" and that he "always looked after his boys."
With Meehan getting killed that means that 3 members of the club were killed in Normandy.
The Lt McFadden was a platoon commander in F Company who became CO. Lt Cox aparently commanded HQ company, although that may just be the combat elements.
Webster also describes the death of Benjamin Stoney who is in the K.I.A list at the top. It was Vierville on June 8. Webster's company came upon Kraut troopers. Cox, in command and up front went to open fire but his M3 was jammed. Sergeant Stoney from battalion S-2 took his place but before he could fire he was hit in the face by machine gun fire.
Back in the 70's I read a Reader's Digest Condensed book called "Curahee" that detailed the D-Day drop. The author had a potato masher go off in front of his face, took some shrapnel, and was taken back to England. The book has long since disappeared but I am wondering if others are familiar and if so, details like author and if the book is still available. One of the most engaging parts was the author finding a dead German soldier under a tree with a cigarette in his mouth, hands up to light it, but a bullet hole in his forehead. If anyone has any details, please let me know.
Fridge
This book is still available, and a good read. Donald Burgett wrote it. He also chronicles Bastogne in "Seven Roads to Hell", "Beyond the Rhine: A Screaming Eagle in Germany" and "The Road to Arnhem: A Screaming Eagle in Holland".
There is another book listed by him, but evidently out of print called "As Eagles Screamed". All of these are available via Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. I have read Curahee and Seven Roads to Hell. They are very good.
John,
thanks for your reply. I will dig a little deeper into Amazon and see if I can get copies of those books. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't having some false memory and now having an author's name helps. When watching BoB and hearing them sing Blood on the Risers, I remembered reading Curahee as a kid. When last at my parent's house in Tonawanda I searched high and low but could not find the book and thought I might be mistaken (my parents never get rid of anything).
Thanks again.

Hey People, a few questions if anyone would like to help. My dad bought me a Combat Jacket used in band of brothers from a rare props website, on the inside it says what i think is "ross" or "rose" its not very legibal now, but i was wondering if any body knew, either by the soldiers name, or the actors name who it could be. And also what month would E company have gone into training at Camp Tocoa, i know it was in 1942 but not sure what month, someone enlighten me please. And also who would it have been that was sent to ask for volunteers in different towns and states etc etc, what were they called? If anyone can answer these questions, please do, thanks
Hmmm....could be Ross McCall's who played Liebgott in the series, if that's his, i envy you!
I think they began training summer of 1942, i forgot what month, i don't have the book with me right now. You don't have the book, do you?

Anyway ever since i got my jacket ive been collecting other items to complete a Paratrooper uniform, as it stands i have the jacket, the shirt that goes underneath it, and the white tee-shirt (with all nessacery insignia). Ive also ordered an M1C Paratrooper helmet with 2/506th PIR decals for the sides. For those who are interested i got the helmet from www.jmurrayinc1944.com and the decals from www.military_steel_helmets_and_decals.com .....Ive given the adds because i know how hard it is to come by some accurate replica helmets and take it from me, they dont get any better than these guys. I've also just booked a hotel in Saint mere eglise from June 3rd to June 17th, 2 weeks in heaven as i see it. First place i want to see is brecourt manor in Saint mon du mere, has anyone been there? If so, is it worth going to visit where E/co spent D-day and took out those 105mm Howitzers?

Hey, Adam, it is really worth a visit! there's lots concerning WWII to see there and it's a nice place to rest! anyhow, thanks for the URL's, I bet they'll be useful, and maybe and off topic question, I saw your email address, and now I'm wondering what (punk)band you play in? (as you've been on tour), I also play in a band. we've been on tour lately too and nothing's more fun...
Fewiii,
Its come from being a punk band into a sort of metal band, our guitarist has progressed so much over the space of 5/6 months that he started writing solo's so our music stepped up a notch, its nothing as heavy as metallica or pantera but it certainly has some fast solos, he's turned to a god lately. Anyway Ste.marie-du-mont, can you actually see where the guns were, or has the place been turned back into a field again?

Its important to remember when we talk of E/cos regiment that we get the battalion correct. I was reading up on a website about helmet markings of the US Army during WWII, including the Infantry regiments that stormed the beaches. It was just as important, if not more important for E/co to have a spade on their helmets as it was for them to have a screaming eagle on their right shoulders. However its not as simple as a spade. There were seven companies in their battalion to be wearing the same markings, and then 2 more battalions of the 506th to wear a spade on their helmets, this is how it works.
We have the 501st PIR, of which there are three battalions and a HQ, their helmet insignia is a diamond.
The 502nd PIR of which there is three battalions and a HQ, their helmet insignia is s heart.
The 506th PIR, of which there is three battalions and a HQ, their helmet insignia is Spade.
The 327th GIR (Glider infantry Regiment) of which there was three battalions and a HQ, their helmet insignia was a club.
That was the 101st Airborne, but it still is not as simple as that, there were dots position around the insignia to signify what battalion they were in and also the HQ. HQ had the dot above the insignia, the 1st battalion to the right, 2nd battalion bellow (E/co would have that) and 3rd battalion to the left. It worked with all the PIRs and the GIR. When you watch BoB you should notice what ive said, especially when members of HQ come to visit E/co (like in bastogne). Anyway i thought i'd give everyone this information because i figured i didn't know before i read up about it, and i can't be the only one who didn't know, so hopefully someone out there who's been reading this has been enlightened by whats been said.

Bez, on Brecourt Manor;
The farmhouse is still there, but there is not much to see in the fields. I've explored the site and the fields. There is a 'leg' of one of de guns laying on the farmers courtyard. The fields itself are cow-territry, and the trenches are not visible anymore. The fields have been 'searched' with detectors recently.
It is just that the men were there, so I had to see it.

I agree, the reason i so badly want to go there is because its the only place in france i can put my finger on that it is 100% certain to have had E/co there. Although i can put my finger on Carentan, i've already visited there and from what i saw theres not really much i recognised from BoB because im sure they would have made the set to look as much like carentan as possible, including the the Normandy Cafe. I did however manage to work out the entrance routes E/co would have used into the town. In terms of airborne troops Saint mere eglise had to be the best, with the airborne museums and no end of Memorabilia shops for the Airborne, great place.
